New featurette for George Clooney’s The Monuments Men focuses on the cast

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

George Clooney's next directorial effort is THE MONUMENTS MEN, which features a diverse cast of actors, including Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bob Balaban, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Hugh Bonneville, and Bill Murray, who are all seen in this new featurette for Clooney's "company" of actors. It's no shock that Clooney would assemble a great team of actors for his latest flick and it's also no shock that they all seem to be ecstatic to be working with him.

Here's the synopsis:

Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind's greatest achievements.

I'm very curious to see how THE MONUMENTS MEN does at the box office. I'm certainly interested, but I can't say that I'm excited. I'm sure that it's a good movie, just with the cast alone, but I'm just not sure it's going to blow the box office away. Clooney has shied away from doing your typical commerical projects, but has shown some skill in choosing ones that take off regardless, including this past summer's GRAVITY. I think THE MONUMENTS MEN hits that same mark. It's Clooney simply making what he wants, not what Hollywood wants him to make, so for that, I give him props.

THE MONUMENTS MEN starts saving art on February 7, 2014.
