No sequel to Drive is coming, but could The Driver appear in other films?

Drive poster slice

I… don’t know what to make of this. It could just be director Nicolas Winding Refn messing about with fans, but at the same time he has to know how beloved DRIVE is throughout the ranks of cinema lovers the world over.  So for now let’s say that this is absolutely Refn hinting at something more, as that’s the infinitely more interesting possibility to explore.

When asked point blank about the chance for a follow-up to DRIVE, Refn revealed: “[A sequel] is never going to happen. But the character of The Driver might return in another film. We’re playing with that idea. We’ll see what happens.”

Is this a hint at some small scene in ONLY GOD FORGIVES? That might get a bit trippy, what with Ryan Gosling already playing the lead in that film and all, but perhaps Gosling’s character of The Driver might be able to show up in future action films and/or future Refn films? The possibilities are too wild to imagine, so I turn the spotlight over to you – what do you think Refn’s comment means, and what do you hope it means? And how do you feel that the book sequel to DRIVE (titled DRIVEN) won’t be gracing cinema screens near you?

Don’t forget that, besides starring with Gosling in DRIVE, Christina Hendricks will also take the lead in his writing/directing debut HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER
