Rogue has been cut from Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past

Were you looking forward to the return of Rogue (Anna Paquin) in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST? Unfortunately, the character has been cut from the movie.

No, it’s nothing so scandalous. A rescue scene that featured Rogue, Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellan), and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) had to be taken out of the film. This is what director Bryan Singer revealed to Entertainment Weekly:

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”

At least the scene will likely make it to the DVD extras when the film eventually releases in stores. Singer went on to say that the decision had nothing to do with her performance, and went on to praise her abilities as an actress saying he would definitely work with her again.

Good thing this isn’t one of those situations where she isn’t the last person to find out. Singer already broke the news:

“She completely understood. It’s very disappointing, but she’s very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve.”
