Star Trek Into Darkness will premiere a theatrical trailer in front of non-IMAX screenings of The Hobbit on December 14th

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

If you are planning to catch THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY in IMAX, you recently learned that you will be lucky enough to see the premiere of the first 9 minutes of STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. Now that is a nice Christmas treat! But, if you are not planning on seeing the IMAX version of the film, you still get some STAR TREK goodness.

Fans who see THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY on standard screens will get to see the full length trailer for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. The catch, though, is that the trailer will not be playing on IMAX screens. So, you would have to see both formats to get the 9 minute clip and the theatrical trailer. TrekMovie has confirmed as well that the full trailer will contain footage from the entire movie and not just the prologue.

If it helps you make your final decision, the trailer will premiere online the following week while the prologue will not be posted online. I am sure there will still be bootlegs of the prologue as there were for THE DARK KNIGHT, but I would put my money on seeing THE HOBBIT in IMAX.

Hopefully seeing this full trailer will finally put the villain rumors to rest for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. I am still crossing my fingers for Khan!

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS transports into theaters on May 17, 2013.
