Teaser trailer(s) for Star Trek Into Darkness brings the action…and darkness

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

One of the most eagerly anticipated and closely guarded films of 2013 now has more than 3 frames of footage to show you in the first official teaser for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. The J.J. Abrams directed sci-fi sequel to 2009’s STAR TREK finds the crew of the Enterprise on a much darker (hence, the darkness) journey, which, judging by this teaser, will take them to quite a few locations to combat evil and save the galaxy.

After seeing IRON MAN 3‘s teaser trailer and now this one for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, I’m definitely getting the feeling that the gritty, doom-and-gloom aspects of THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy have reverberated into the soul of big-budget land, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but definitely a consistent one.  Regardless of that, there’s plenty of action and epic-looking sequences in this short teaser that leave me excited for more.  Surprisingly, the teaser footage looks to be set mostly on Earth (or distant planet) or inside a ship rather than the usual star-cluttered space.

Here’s the synopsis:

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.  As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke, and Benedict Cumberbatch opens in 3D and IMAX on May 17, 2013.
