TMNT comic co-creator says new film will make fans “incredibly happy”

Earlier this month Peter Laird (one of the creators of the TMNT comics) shared his thoughts on the upcoming reboot, and the other co-creator, Kevin Eastman, has a few things to say about the Jonathan Liebesman directed/Michael Bay produced film as well.

Peter Laird has a few issues with TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (although he was very polite about it), however Kevin Eastman sounds a bit more optimistic about the project in his interview with CBR.

It's been a four, almost five-year journey to bring the next "Turtles" movie to life since the time we pitched it. I know everybody is like, "Oh, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, he's gonna ruin it! He's gonna destroy it!" But everyone I have encountered has been nothing more than incredibly sincere to try and bring the Turtles back in a way that's new, fresh and exciting, but with total respect to everything that's come before. I've read the script. I have a cameo in the move. It's awesome — really fun.

What they've done with the film is going to make fans incredibly happy, including myself. The vision is awesome, the effects are incredible and the story will be something everybody can relate to and like. I'll leave it out there for the fans to let us know what they like in the end, but I'm very proud to be part of it. A lot of people are going to be surprised.

I wonder which fans will be incredibly happy though: kids who are fans of the new comics and animated series, or adults who love the original comics, cartoons and movies. I still want to see TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, but there are some things I'm definitely not digging about the new film.

A new image from TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES has also landed online, featuring Megan Fox's April O'Neil, Will Arnett's Vernon Fenwick, and what looks like a few members of the Foot Clan, who I assume just got the snot kicked out of them by the Turtles.

Synopsis:

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

Jonathan Liebesman's TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES also stars William Fichtner, Tony Shalhoub, Johnny Knoxville, Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard and Whoopi Goldberg, and will be in theaters on August 8th, 2014.
