Universal is checking out Joe Wright to helm 50 Shades of Grey

Anyone know a little book called 50 SHADES OF GREY? Yeah, sorry, I was trying to get you excited but I’m having a difficult time here.

Well, it does involve sexy sex sex, which means that possibly two of your favorite actors are going to be exploring each others desires through BDSM. But in that rated-R kind of way. It probably won’t be as steamy as women are imagining it to be. Ladies can get pretty detailed in their desires as you can tell in E.L. James’ book, and the minds of her legions across the internet. It’s the grown-up more prevy version of TWILIGHT minus the wolves and vampires and all that business.

A handful of directors have already passed through the ringer including Patty Jenkins, Bill Condon, Bennett Miller and Gus Van Sant. Now it looks like Universal wants Joe Wright to direct the adaptation. Before settling on Wright, Steven Soderbergh was their second choice. No deal is in place yet.

After they settle on a director it will be time to cast the two leads: Edward and Bella Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. I’m just going to be honest here, I hope Wright passes. He deserves better.
