WB’s Greg Silverman addresses Wonder Woman appearing in Batman vs Superman rumor

At the Variety Entertainment and Tech Summit earlier this week, Greg Silverman (Warner Bros' president of creative development and worldwide production) responded to the rumors that Wonder Woman may appear in Zack Snyder's BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. Sounds super revealing, doesn't it? Unfortunately, most of what Silverman says we already know: that Warner Bros. is trying to figure out how to use the character, and has been for a while.

Greg Silverman was asked if BATMAN VS SUPERMAN will introduce other DC Comics superheroes, and of course he had to bring up Wonder Woman:

"We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use all those characters and we love them,” Silverman said. “Wonder Woman is an amazing character. I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful female superhero.”

When asked by Variety if Wonder Woman will be a part of the film or have a separate movie, this was Greg Silverman's response

"We are taking it all very seriously and are trying to do a plan that’s respectful to those characters and maximizes the stories as best they can,” Silverman said, dodging the question. “So everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about."

So Silverman is pretty much saying, "Yes, most of the rumors you have read are true, however we have no solid plans for the character at this time. And even if we did, I can't tell you any details yet."

Greg Silverman also talked about the negative fan reaction to Ben Affleck being cast as Batman. He says there is plenty the public doesn't know about when it comes to how the character will be portrayed in the film, and how much time was spent deciding who will be the new Batman.

“We knew going in that we had more information than the general public had. We knew what the take of the movie was, we knew what the character was going to be. We don’t take these decisions lightly. We thought about everybody — brand new people, established people. Ben is the perfect guy to play this role.”

Greg Silverman wouldn't say how Batman and Superman will interact in the film, but he does say, "they both will be wearing suits, there are capes involved, there will be action, there will be excitement."

I know Greg Silverman's comments don't necessarily confirm Wonder Woman in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, but obviously DC and Warner Bros. is trying to build towards something similar to what Marvel and Disney have done with their films, and a big piece needed for their plans to succeed in my opinion is Wonder Woman. If they truly want to create a cinematic universe on par with Marvel's, they're going to have to figure out how the character will be introduced in their films.

BATMAN VS SUPERMAN starring Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17th, 2015.
