Will Forte says he still wants to make MacGruber 2

Will Forte has received a lot of attention recently for his performance in Alexander Payne's NEBRASKA, but there is one character many fans of the comedian are dying to see him revisit: MacGruber. Although the film bombed at the box office when it was released in 2010, it found a second life on DVD, and many people now love the ridiculous movie. Forte promised there will be a sequel last year, however there hasn't been any word on the project since.

In an interview with Collider, Will Forte was asked to give an update on MACGRUBER 2, and he says he still wants to do it, and has a few ideas for the first act.

"Jorma [Taccone] and I just got together—well, John Solomon, who’s our third partner, is working at SNL right now—so Jorma and I got together to try and start figuring it out.  We have a really solid first act so far, so we have to get together again and keep going through.  But yeah, he’s been super busy, and I’ve been really busy, John is still in production at SNL, so hopefully when he’s out, and we can all find some time to get together, we can rip through it because we would love to try and make a second one.  We love the stuff we have so far, and it’s really fun, and we hope we can get it all together."

There are some who absolutely hate MACGRUBER, but I thought it was great. I loved the original SNL skits, and while a few of the jokes in the feature film fell flat, overall I thought it was a very funny movie. The problem is I just don't see MACGRUBER 2 doing any better at the box office than the first one. DVD sales for MACGRUBER may have been decent, however that doesn't necessarily mean a sequel would definitely be a hit. But if Will Forte still wants to make MACGRUBER 2, I'm certainly interested in checking it out.
