Miike gets dumped

01.19.2006

Now I don't subscribe to Showtime and haven't seen any of the "Masters of Horror" 13-part anthology. But I will say that I was at a "Masters of Horror" cast and crew party and San Diego and they got me ripped. So ripped I...um, nevermind. I have heard mainly mediocre things about the series to date so it's surprising that the one installment that really could've shaken things up and taken advantage of the format, Takashi Miike's IMPRINT, has been shelved. IMPRINT was to have premiered later this month on the 27th but Showtime cancelled any airings and has removed mention of the film from its website. So what gives? Showtime isn't talking and neither is Miike, who is busy shooting WARU:FINAL but apparently the final product was just too intense. Says Mick Garris, producer of "Masters of Horror, "it's even hard for me to watch. It's definitely the most disturbing film I've ever seen." OK.... so like I said, what's the problem?! Showtime might have looked past the extreme violence but it appears, according to the New York Times, that the network took exception to some graphic scenes where one of the characters works as an abortion assistant. Lucky for all of us gore hounds, IMPRINT will get an uncut DVD release courtesy of Anchor Bay.
