Dazed & Confused: Criterion Collection - June

You know any redheads, man? It'd be a lot cooler if you did."

It's been almost two years since the "Flashback Edition" of Dazed was first released (read our review of that HERE) but it's getting the much deserved Criterion treatment, complete with a pretty pimptastic cover and an all new high-definition digital transfer. Not sure if the commentary included will be the same as the Flashback Edition, but if it is, who cares. Listen to it anyway. For more info regarding its release go HERE.

Includes:

  • All new high-definition digital transfer, supervised by Richard Linklater and cinematographer Lee Daniel
  • Audio commentary by Linklater
  • "Making Dazed," a 50-minute documentary by filmmaker Kahane Corn
  • Booklet featuring new essays by film critic Kent Jones, music critic Jim DeRogatis, and author Chuck Klosterman, plus character profiles, and memories of the film from cast and crew
  • More than two hours of rare on-set interviews and behind-the-scenes footage featuring cast and crew
  • Footage from the 10-year anniversary celebration
  • Audition footage
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Original trailer
  • Collectible film poster

Platoon (SE) - May 30

Ollie Stone, in between rambling at length about everything thing and nothing and bumming out web journalists, found time to record new interviews and commentary for this new Platoon special edition. JoBlo is stoked because Johnny Depp is in it for like two seconds. Hopefully some better looking, high quality artwork will be released, but for now, you'll just have to deal with the low budget, bootleg version.

Includes:

  • Deleted Scenes and Extended Scenes with Commentary by Oliver Stone
  • New Interviews with Oliver Stone
  • New Interviews with Vietnam Veterans
  • “Creating the ‘Nam” Documentary
  • “One War, Many Stories” Documentary

  • “Tour of the Inferno” Documentary, featuring Interviews with the Director, Cast and Crew
  • Audio Commentary by Director/Writer Oliver Stone
  • Audio Commentary by Military Supervisor Captain Dale Dye

Brokeback Mountain - April 4

I think one of the only funny bits from the Oscars was the montage of cowboys making gay gestures and saying gay, out of context things. Hilarity. Then one of my homies came over and we totally got it on. Totally. Not really. I don't swing that way. Okay, maybe once in college but it hurt real bad so that was it. Fine, twice. Whatever. Nine times it's happened so get off my back and let's just drop it. Okay? Thanks.

Includes:

  • On Being a Cowboy featurette
  • Directing from the Heart: Ang Lee featurette
  • Interviews with Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana
  • Making of featurette
  • 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen
  • English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround tracks

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - June 13

It's nice to see Robert Downey back in the mix, Shane Black also. Val Kilmer's been around, so I didn't have to worry about him, except for playing the old, creepy guy and hanging all over Paris Hilton. Check out the look on her face! I love Val, what a guy! Presented in 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen with English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track, Kiss/Bang's extras include Long Shadows Sharp Tongue: A Noir Documentary, a gag reel, and the films theatrical trailer. Not much, but what're you gonna do? Hopefully we can get a Shane Black commentary on one of the next 17 special editions to be released.
