11.21.2002

Leonardo DiCaprio will star in THE GOOD SHEPHERD with Robert De Niro directing and Francis Ford Coppola producing. SHEPHERD will be De Niro's second time behind the camera following 1993's A BRONX TALE. The film is described as an "epic history of the CIA" and follows James Wilson (DiCaprio), a Yale grad recruited to become on the agency's founding members, and will focus on the effect his 40-year career had on his life and family. DiCaprio, who next films his Howard Hughes biopic THE AVIATOR with Martin Scorsese, will begin filming in fall of 2003. De Niro, who will also take on a small supporting role, is expected to begin once he finishes MEET THE FOCKERS which is now expected to begin in spring 2003. THE GOOD SHEPHERD has been in development since 1999 and at different times the late John Frankenheimer was slated to direct and Jude Law to star. The script was written by Academy Award winner Eric Roth (FORREST GUMP) and is based on real-life CIA counterintelligence agent James Angleton.
