Fox dumps Alexander

12.13.2002

Speaking of Leonardo DiCaprio, Fox has pulled out of its planned co-production with Universal of ALEXANDER THE GREAT. The Baz Luhrmann/DiCaprio epic was expected to cost over $140 million leaving Fox, who would've had international distribution, antsy. DreamWorks, once a possible player in another Leo epic, THE AVIATOR, has stepped in to fill the role left vacant by Fox.

In other ALEXANDER news, Nicole Kidman has expressed interest in the female lead, Alexander's mother Olympia. Talks are underway with the actress, who would reteam with her MOULIN ROUGE director Luhrmann, and negotiations should begin in the new year. Kidman has both THE STEPFORD WIVES and BIRTH on her current schedule and is trying to get an adaptation of the classic TV show BEWITCHED off the ground.
