DVD Cool News #132

The Latest Announcements

21 Grams (SE) - October 3

If you scope out the two menu shots below, it looks like the only feature included with this special edition will be a making of featurette called "In Fragments". It's too bad a commentary with the director wasn't included because it would've been cool to hear his thoughts. Oh well. The film will have an 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and have both English Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround tracks.

Curious George - September 26

CURIOUS GEORGE looked interesting to me for about two seconds. Then I realized I wasn't three years old anymore (even though my lady friend says I'm hung like one, the bitch). Jack Johnson was all over this soundtrack and his music makes my testicles hastily retreat to my stomach. I swear I want to swallow knives hearing it. The Man in the Yellow Hat could've been pimping Curious George for circus money, and that's some serious cash. I guess homeboy's not much of an entrepreneur.

  • Exclusive Jack Johnson music video with sing-along feature
  • 15 deleted scenes
  • Monkey Around with Words: Go Bananas Learning New Words - Featurette
  • Monkey In Motion - Featurette on the animation of the film
  • Interactive Games
  • 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen
  • English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks

LOTR Trilogy (SE) - August 29

Below you can find some artwork for the new trilogy with the one new documentary for each movie. If you're into that sort of thing. And by "sort of thing" I mean, "triple dip". And by "triple dip", I'm not talking about your sister. This time. Natch!

Miscellaneous DVD Shite...

Our friends at DavisDVD have been known to have a DVD Rumor Mill that's actually pretty accurate, though they were a tad bit off on the DEVIL IN MISS JONES release (porn fans will get that).

  • Looks like old friend of the site, Kevin Smith, mentioned on a radio show that CLERKS II will hit DVD retailers on December 5th (read JoBlo's review of the film HERE). Although, there are no reports on what will be on it, you know that shite will be fudgepacked with a ton of extras, as per usual. Also, the Rumor Mill has a brief interview where stars Brian O'Halloran (Dante) and Jeff Anderson (Randall) talk about scenes that were cut from the movie. I didn't read it as I want to go into the movie "fresh" (even though they're deleted) but it looks to be pretty detailed (go HERE to read that.)

  • The Weinstein Co. will release Project Greenlight winner John Gulager's (who looks remarkably like Jim Gaffigan, if Jim didn't sleep for a month) flick FEAST in a limited theatrical run on September 22nd with the DVD hitting stores sometime in October.

  • Jerry Bruckheimer mentioned that an assistant cameraman shot footage through the various phases of production on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2. You have to assume that said assistant cameraman also shot footage for the third part in the trilogy as director Gore Verbinski is shooting both 2 and 3 at the same time. Though he didn't mention when the DVD will be released, he did mention that it might include a trailer for PIRATES 3.

Special thanks to the DavisDVD Rumor Mill for the info.

"JoBlo wants to nail me? You mean the little Canadian guy?"

    Big Love

Basic Instinct 2: Sharon Stone is 90 and Mike Sampson is in love with her. Ask him. 7/11

Reno 911 (S3): I used to think I was a big fan of Reno 911. And it turns out, I was right. 7/11

Road House (SE): I know you get tired of me saying it (and I'll never stop) but it's one of the greatest movies of all time. Sam Elliot's Wade Garrett will kick your ass and take your woman. You know, if he wasn't dead or anything. 7/18

Road House 2 (Housin' It): That's not really the subtitle, but it'd be a lot cooler if it was. A lot cooler. 7/18
