16 new images from A&E's Hitchcock-inspired series, Bates Motel with Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore

Nov. 27, 2012by:

A&E is busy filming their new series, Bates Motel, which is an origin tale of the famous characters from Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic, PSYCHO.  Based on the book by Robert Bloch, PSYCHO was a revolutionary thriller for that era and has long been a staple of Hitchcock's reportoirre.  With the upcoming release of the HITCHCOCK biopic in January, it's the perfect time to tap into the director's lore with a show that highlights one of his most famous films.

Lost's Carlton Cuse and Friday Night Light's Kerry Ehrin are the producers of the show and say the series "will explore Norman's relationship with his mother, Norma and offer a look at his backstory that helped forge the infamous serial killer."  The show will star Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates, originally embodies with awesome creepiness by the late Anthony Perkins, and Vera Farmiga as Norma Louise Bates, who is "described as a complicated, passionate and compelling woman who is smart, multidimensional and always capable of surprising people."

Other stars joining the show are Max Theiriot, Nestor Carbonell, Olivia Cooke, Mike Vogel, and Nicola Peltz.  "We think our take on the Bates family will both be surprising and subvert expectations.  We can't wait for people to check in," said Cuse about the show, which is set to premiere sometime in early 2013.

Here's the pics:

Extra Tidbit: Is this blasphemy or something you'll be checking out? I'm intrigued. They've got me for the pilot.

My interest in this just dropped.

What's with the iPod and modern cars? I'd always assumed this was going to be set in the 50s.

Why not do an Alfred Hitchcock Presents sendup instead?

There's a serious lack of anthology shows these days anyway. Plus, I just don't see how you could milk the Psycho story out for more than one season, and you'd still just end up with something not as good as the movie. Isn't worth the trouble, imo.

Yay, I can't wait to hear the mopey music Norman is listening to on his 1950s iPod.

The pics got me a bit excited, but not quite sucked in. I do like the fact that Vera is in it. And the mayor/immortal himself Nestor Carbonell is quite an addition.

Why not check it out? A& E has lots of money, creative show heads, and it pans out to typically very good shows... I see no reasons to bash it before it airs.

So this is present day? How does that make sense? Why is his luggage old looking in that one pic? Still pretty interesting though.
