Caviezel makes Final Cut

05.29.2003

While the kind blue eyes of James Caviezel (THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO) are poised and ready to stare down the religious controversy that his upcoming film (Mel Gibson's THE PASSION) is sure to cause, he is by no means expecting the backlash towards his promising career to be as severe as some might expect (the film is rumored to place the death of Christ squarely on the shoulders of the Jews, who, in turn, make up the elite of Hollywood's executive community). Besides two upcoming projects that are already in post-production, I AM DAVID and HIGHWAYMEN, Caviezel has now signed on to star opposite Robin Williams in Lions Gate Films' sci-fi thriller FINAL CUT. The story centers on a Big Brother like future where a chip is implanted in humans to record their lives. The chips are removed upon death and edited into a highlight reel of sorts, that loved ones can then play back. Williams will play Cutter, an editor who assembles final cut's of his client's lives. In his latest project, Cutter discovers a window into his own dark history which sets off a chain reaction that puts his life in danger. Caviezel will play the leader of an organization that opposes the development of the technology. FINAL CUT is set to begin filming in Vancouver on June 10th.

Caviezel is easily at the top of my list of "Actor's who haven't got the respect they deserve yet". This is readily apparent from his work in respectable films like Terrence Malick's THE THIN RED LINE and Ang Lee's RIDE WITH THE DEVIL as well as more mainstream films like FREQUENCY (which is at the top of my list of "Hollywood Movies that no one saw, but should run out and rent right now") and THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO.
