LG Drawn to Eli Roth

06.27.2003

How awesome would it be to have one of the most highly anticipated horror films of the year sitting in your back pocket waiting for it's September release and already be recognized as one of the hottest young writer/directors in the horror genre even though that film is your feature directorial debut? Well, just ask Eli Roth. No, I'm not going to give you his number, I don't even know the guy, but he sure is getting a lot of attention for his debut release, CABIN FEVER, which screened at last year's Toronto International Film Festival to very favorable reviews, and was subsequently picked up by Lions Gate after a bidding war with a few other distributors. Well, it appears as though Lions Gate truly recognize his potential and is so confident in Mr. Roth's abilities as a director, that they are starting to buy scripts for him to direct, namely a script from scribe Rand Ravich called DRAWN. It's about "a man whose obsession with artistic success leads him to make choices that may trigger the emergence of ultimate evil." and here is what Roth had to say about the story: "This is the scariest and (most) f*cked-up script I've ever read,". Okaaaaay... you didn't even give me the chance to say earmuffs there, did ya Eli? Anyway... the film is budgeted between $10 to $20 million and will be produced by Industry Entertainment and Bonaventura Pictures. There is no word yet on whether Roth will take a stab at a re-write or not.

Cabin Fever was written at night while working on Howard Stern's film "Private Parts" as the shock jock's personal alarm clock. Roth sat outside Stern's bedroom writing every night, and woke Stern up at 5:00 AM every day to go to work.
