2010: Lionsgate

01.01.2010

Another day, another 2010 preview from a studio located on the West Coast of the United States a.k.a. Hollywood. We've already posted 2010 previews from WARNER BROS, WALT DISNEY, SONY PICTURES and PARAMOUNT, so how about we give LIONSGATE a chance to showcase their slate right now?

Like Paramount before it, LG has two no-brainers on their list in KICK-ASS, which may be one of the most anticipated movies for movie nerds in 2010, and THE EXPENDABLES, which may be one of the most anticipated movies for action fans! DAYBREAKERS and FROM PARIS WITH LOVE also look like they could be a handful of fun, but thumbs down to yet another lame-looking Nic Cage flick in SEASON OF THE WITCH and wake me when the SAW movies are done already. As per usual, click on any of the pics below for more info on the film, or check out the entire list of 2010 UPCOMING MOVIES. What think you?

DAYBREAKERS
(January 8)

The year is 2019. A mysterious plague has swept over the earth, transforming the majority of the world's population into vampires. Humans are now an endangered, second-class species – forced into hiding as they are hunted and farmed for vampire consumption to the brink of extinction. It’s all up to Edward Dalton, a vampire researcher who refuses to feed on human blood, to perfect a blood substitute that might sustain vampires and spare the few remaining humans. But time and hope are running out – until Ed meets Audrey, a human survivor who leads him to a startling medical breakthrough. Armed with knowledge that both humans and vampires will kill for, Ed must battle his own kind in a deadly struggle that will decide the fate of the human race.

FROM PARIS WITH LOVE
(February 5)

A personal aide to the U.S. Ambassador in France, James Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) has an enviable life in Paris and a beautiful French girlfriend, but his real passion is his side job as a low-level operative for the CIA. All James wants is to become a bona fide agent and see some real action. So when he’s offered his first senior-level assignment, he can’t believe his good luck – until he meets his new partner, special agent Charlie Wax (John Travolta). A trigger-happy, wisecracking, loose cannon who’s been sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack, Wax leads James on a white-knuckle shooting spree through the Parisian underworld that has James praying for his desk job. But when James discovers he’s a target of the same crime ring they’re trying to bust, he realizes there’s no turning back…and that Wax himself might be his only hope for making it through the next forty-eight hours alive.

KICK-ASS
(April 16)

KICK-ASS tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes -- including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) -- and forges a friendship with another fledgling superhero, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.

KILLERS
(June 4)

Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher) is just your average, undercover, government-hired super-assassin accustomed to a life of exotic European locales, flashy sports cars and even flashier women. But when he meets Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl), a beautiful, fun-loving computer tech recovering from a bad break-up, he finds true love…and happily trades international intrigue for domestic bliss. Three years later, Spencer and Jen are still enjoying a picture-perfect marriage – that is, until the morning after Spencer’s 30th birthday. That’s when Spencer and Jen learn he's the target of a multi-million dollar hit. Even worse, the hired killers have been stalking the happy couple for years, and could be anyone: friends, neighbors, the grocery store clerk, even that crabby old guy shuffling across the street.

Aston Kutcher: International Assassin?

Yeah fucking right. I'm really tired of movie studios ruining my favorite subgenre.

Fucking Lionsgate. I wish them death after that awful marketing campaign for Punisher: War Zone.

The plot to Killers is hilarious

"Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher) is just your average, undercover, government-hired super-assassin accustomed to a life of exotic European locales, flashy sports cars and even flashier women."

Really Lionsgate...Really?

Thank God for Lionsgate, even if they do make some stinkers they always have a few gems which may never of been made by other studios.

Looks pretty weak. Expendables is the only one I'm looking forward to. There are a few maybes (Daybreakers, From Paris with Love) which look like they could be hit or miss.
