MOVIE POLL: What went wrong with THE X-FILES 2?

What went wrong with THE X-FILES 2?

They kept the plot so top secret I stopped caring.
I lost interest in Mulder and Scully years ago.
I never cared about THE X-FILES in the first place.
Bad word of mouth destroyed any buzz.
A lame marketing campaign from Fox.
Still caught up in repeat viewings of DARK KNIGHT.

Box office-wise, the producers just fucked 'em. A $30 mil budget, no marketing, and opening a week after TDK? Didn't have a chance. Should've been a Fall or Winter opening.

As for what went wrong with the movie, well, in my opinion, nothing. I thought it was pretty good. Not necessarily what people were hoping for, but as a "monster of the week" film, it wasn't bad.

The real reason was the budget. X-Files: Fight The Future had a budget of ~60.000.000$, this one had "only" 30.000.000$

This came too late. This movie was released years after the finale, at a time where the series was already on a decline. Not to mention being released so close to TDK, which was the final nail in the coffin.

I wanted to see the film, but then it got some bad reviews, and I had some horrible later season flashbacks..

I'll probably rent it though. Actually, all this X-files talk just makes me want to watch old episodes.

And to all those claiming the the X-files audience is too old, I am 22 and watched it from the beginning. Sure it scared the hell out of me at first but it was good tv!

The obvious

Where do I begin:

Shit story which led early viewers tell others that it was a shit story.

Crap happening in the film that was extremely unbelievable, even for the X-Files.

Poor choice in selecting supporting actors. I think that Pauly Shore and Kathy Griffin could have possibly done better job than Amanda Peet and Xzibit!

Oh yes, shitty story!!!!!

I'd like to kick Chris Carter in the nuts!!

Several reasons...

Non-existent marketing.

Lacerating reviews.

The Dark Knight.

And, years ago, Fox beat this franchise to death during the second half of the original show's run.

Fox never gets it right, do they? They either beat a franchise to death (The X-FIles, The Simpsons, et al.) or they prematurely scuttle a franchise (Firefly, Wonderfalls, Keen Eddie, Brimstone, Brisco County, et al.). Its hard to believe that the suits get paid so much for being so ****ing clueless.

All of the original fans of the X Files died of old age 9 years ago... That might be just a little reason for that.

Its kind of multiple things personally. I am to young (21) in my opinion to have watched the show. I was in elementary school when that show was playing. I do think marketing was major fail, if any!.

And I also think the movie was so fucking top secret I had no Idea what it was about, so I had no morale(?) to want to go
