X-Files 3 to DVD?

08.18.2008

OK, so THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE was a bust. Just an all around bummer. But would you be interested in a third X-FILES movie? Heck, I wasn't even that interested in a second X-FILES movie but I'd at least like them to try and fix what they wronged with this summer's installment. Dread Central is reporting that a third X-FILES movie is in the works but instead of getting lost in the wake of THE DARK KNIGHT it would go direct-to-DVD. Now when I was on the X-FILES 2 set, all parties involved seemed very interested in making more X-FILES movies. That said, I think all parties involved really thought they were making a good movie that would be very successful. Now I can't imagine Fox giving Chris Carter and crew the same budget to make a direct-to-DVD movie. It was an interesting experiment but it didn't work out and let's let David Duchovny go back to "Californication" and Gillian Anderson can do "Masterpiece Theater" and we'll go watch "The Host" on the Season 2 DVD. For more on the scoop, head to Dread Central.

Extra Tidbit: The big secret we weren't allowed to spill from the X-FILES 2 set was that Mulder had a beard. A beard!!

Chris Carter didn't know how to tell a long-term story when he had a chance. The potential that show had in its first 2 (maybe 3) seasons completely squandered. And now that FOX only wanted silly self-contained stories from Carter, the movie audiences have matured to expect continuity and development in their movie franchises. Oops. They gave X-Files a chance years too late anyway. They should give Whedon a chance with a Buffy movie; its fan base is way bigger than X-Files at this point.

The man formerly known as genius, "Chris Carter" ruined this series. Don't get me wrong, it's my favorite series of all time, but X-Files 2 was absolutely ridiculous. He "Didn't want to be held back by the conspiracy plot", fuck you Chris. He was the one who ended it like he did.

Way to fuck us over with this DVD shit too.

I thought the Trailer for X files 2 was the best thing about it! I walked out of the theatre about halfway thru. I expected more not a masterpiece but something worthwhile, I don't see the point in making a 3rd, Spooky Mulder should stick to Californication! which is the bomb. when does it air this season? anyone

I thought that 'I Want To Believe' was absolutley amazing, I was really bummed to hear that most of the fans did not enjoy it as much as I did. I consider The X-Files my favorite show of all time and any thing even related to it makes me tingle with joy! So even though XF2 didnt do so well I'd be totally 100% for a third one even if it is only a straight to DVD movie. Lets hope for the best!!

first off i think they waited to long. the t.v. show had so much stuff going on in it, that it was hard enough keeping up with it on a weekly basis let alone 9 years later.

secondly were was the payoff? they tried to make it a stand alone movie that didnt require any or very little knowledge of the show or first movie. i say fuey to that. there are enough X-files fans out there that deserved answers.

they blew it by trying to appeal to a knew audience. they already have an audience.

Let's face it, the movie tanked because it was a piss poor story that gave nothing to the fans. I for one don't believe that the X-Files was a 90's show. It can work in any decade just as long as there is quality in the stories and the fans aren't left in the dark.

What Carter and company did with this movie was take advantage of the die hard X-Files fans that had been waiting for years to get some closure and maybe a new beginning. Let's face it, the series ending was bland and left many

I for one loved it and I'm not even an Xfiles fan. Never watched the show, never saw the first movie.

I thought it was a clever, enjoyable thriller. Sure, it had problems, but it was better than most garbage thrillers we get.

The marketing was fucked from day one, and that's why it tanked. No one knew it was even coming out, and when it did, no had pans to go see it because of TDK. If it had opened a month ealier and had been advertised, it would have done much better.

Frankly

this is a series that just needs to stay dead and buried. X-Files 2 bombed because it's not the 1990's anymore. If it had opened up this coming weekend, it still would have bombed because people have moved on from the series. Well, most people have moved on from the series.

So I guess there are not many of us "out there", but I really enjoyed the second film. X-Files was created to allow the viewers to create their own explanation of what was happening. The movie should not tie things together. There should not be a concrete ending that explains everything. There should not be answers. We should be left wondering what could have been, and that is exactly what Chris Carter did once again. He is allowing us to make our own conclusions to the story, but at the same

Speculation is a wonderful and exciting thing.

X-Files 2 was CRAP!

They need to redeem themselves. X-Files 2 was a horrific piece of cinematic dung!!!

Give us some answers:

What happened after the series finale?
They were on the run from the corrupt forces of the government, including the FBI, Super Soldiers and high ranking government officials!

What happened to Deputy Director Kirsh, Gibson Paise, Agents Dogget and Reyes?

Just too much to simply forget and just start a movie with no explanations. Very poorly planned and executed.

Let's not

Let's not forget the dumb ass story about gay Russians and cross dressing Frankensteins coupled with child touching priests. What a piece of shit!!!Fuck Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz!! They have lots to answer for.

Give us some quality material not half rate hack work!!!

I fully blame the marketing. I mean, it was stupid for the film to be stand-alone, they should've connected it to the series alien conspiracy stuff, but the marketing was quite potentially the biggest botch job I've ever witnessed.

I also want a third movie. The second did not register even a one on my crap o meter, so I don't think it was a "bummer" for all of us.

*SPOILER AHEAD*

I was disappointed in a few areas, like the strange appearance of them in bed with no explanation so that we were to "assume" they'd been together all along. Can't stand when films do this sort of thing, and I really really can't stand that Carter chose that path in this film, seeing as how so many X-o-philes had wished for a consummation

So, uneven in spots? Sure. But horrible? No way. No fucking way.

I miss the two of them, as their chemistry is something that doesn't come along that often.

I want another movie. But I can't agree that the recent film was a disappointment. It didn't succeed financially, but it deserved to. It was a brilliant, creepy thriller that asked questions and refused to answer them. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a movie that did that. In my mind, it was more than I could have hoped for.
