Keanu's co-star

08.21.2003

The adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic "Hellblazer" has been in development for some time now. The project, called CONSTANTINE due to legal issues with the "Hellblazer" name, was originally set up with Nicolas Cage starring and Tarsem directing. In fact at one point it was even in the Warner Bros preview kit for 2002. Tarsem left due to "creative differences" which basically boiled down to him not getting the budget he wanted. Shortly thereafter Cage bailed and the project went back into limbo. Recently Warners signed on Keanu Reeves to replace Cage and the project showed signs of life. Now Reeves has his female co-star and the project is one step closer to finally becoming a reality. Rachel Weisz will star as Angela, a police officer who pairs with John Constantine (Reeves) when her twin sister is murdered. The producers are describing the film as "DIRTY HARRY set in the occult world." Weisz has THE RUNAWAY JURY set for release in October and the Ben Stiller/Jack Black comedy ENVY in early 2004. I don't think I need to tell you Reeves has THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS coming in November. CONSTANTINE will begin filming under the direction of former music video director Francis Lawrence this fall.
