Pics from Coppola's Lost in..

Many people on this site absolutely adored Sofia Coppola's debut film THE VIRGIN SUICIDES. When I originally saw it, I used the words "boring" and "meaningless" to best describe my overall feelings toward it, but did offer it points for various other bits like its awesome style, super soundtrack and top-notch acting. Maybe I'll watch it again one day and see what I apparently "missed". That aside, Coppola has now finished her latest endeavor entitled LOST IN TRANSLATION starring Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Anna Faris and Giovanni Ribisi. Shot entirely in Japan over a period of only 27 days, Mrs. Spike Jonze (ADAPTATION, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) was apparently inspired by her own experiences in Japan in her early 20s. Here's what the flick is all about:

Bob Harris (Murray) and Charlotte (Johansson) are two Americans in Tokyo. Bob is a movie star in town to shoot a whiskey commercial, while Charlotte is a young woman tagging along with her workaholic photographer husband (Ribisi). Unable to sleep, Bob and Charlotte cross paths one night in the luxury hotel bar. This chance meeting soon becomes a surprising friendship. Charlotte and Bob venture through Tokyo, having often hilarious encounters with its citizens, and ultimately discover a new belief in life’s possibilities.

The film has already received some decent word of mouth, and will be opening in New York, L.A., Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C. on September 12, with a wider release across additional cities on September 19 & 26. Intrigued? Check out some photos from the film below, as well as two teaser posters. As usual, click to enlarge.
