Smarmy Douche

When you mentioned word of mouth the first time, you were talking about many people will say it sucked and then it will drop like a rock. The reception of the movie is excellent so far and just because you think it's gonna suck, doesn't mean every one else does.

And to the fanboys comment; there's gonna be more than just fanboys seeing the movie. Will a majority be fanboys? Obviously but regular people will see it as well. I know tons of people that want to check it out and haven't even read

Also, after the first weekend, if the word of mouth is positive, tons of people who didn't see it will go check it out the next weekend. The second weekend doesn't just stay up there because of repeat viewings. Not everyone sees the movie opening weekend.

What made me insult you though was that you said, "given word of mouth", like it's just been released on Friday. It's like you already know that word of mouth is shitty. It's just an ignorant comment considering it hasn't even been released yet and reviews are good.

what does tyler perry have to do with Watchmen?

Also, after leaving a watchmen screening I was wondering who else, besides those of us who read it, will even GET this movie?

but for the record, I liked it better than Dark Knight.

opening

if tyler perry can open at 40mil i would hope watchmen would gross 60-70mil but i dont think watchmen has the general appeal that 300 did. 300 was loosely based on a well known historical battle promising intense battle scenes. watchmen looks a lot more complicated and bizarre to alot of general moviegoers.

I was taken aback when I was personally insulted here, not only because JoBlo has a rule against disrespecting fellow members, but that by and large, the people here are generally more civil and pleasant. But as always, there are exceptions to every rule.

To clarify, though I probably shouldn't even bother, Watchmen is long, self-involved, with a mythos, that given Snyder has said he has changed little, the burping fratboys and squealing girls who bought 300, and again and again, will not

The same burping fratboys and squealing girls who could not care less what the critics and fanboys think.

Even if it is frontloaded more than 50, it will not have a substantial number of viewers seeing it twice.

But yeah, good job acting hostile as a primary reflex, it's very becoming of you.

Don't be making fun of people just because they're right. There's no way this movie opens at more than 50 million. Thinking otherwise is just letting your excitement conceal your better judgment and not seeing things for what they are.

"It'll open around 50, and given word of mouth, will probably drop like a rock soon after."

Your name is almost perfect for you. Just change "Smarmy" to "Stupid" and you'll be golden.

Also, the word of mouth is soooooo bad right now. 81% on Rotten Tomatoes is horrible.

61-80 million? Give me a break.

300 is dead.

However

300 had a big opening because it had a bigger appeal to women for obvious reasons. Watchman doesn't cover such a big demographic as 300 did. I see Watchman opening up around 50 million.

The only reason why I don't think it will have a huge opening is because of the R rating and the length of the movie. But I'll be watching that weekend.

T-Mack is right on the money, this movie should open up comfortably in the 70-80 million region. It's more known throughout and has some major marketing behind it. A 40 million opening would be a great disappointment for a film like this.

$41-60 million. REALLY???

C'mon, people. Recall that 300, an even lesser known graphic novel managed to gross $70 million in this frame two years ago. Watchmen, a higher profile release with an even larger marketing campaign surely will open larger than $41-60 million. This is the first major blockbuster release to hit theatres since Quantum of Solace nearly four months ago. A solid $75 million is what I predict.
