9/10

As someone who owns (and loves) the graphic novel, I'd say Zack Snyder batted one out of the park. He kept what needed to be kept, and trimmed the unnecessary bits. Not an instant classic, but a very good movie nonetheless.

i thought it was pretty effin sweet. the beginning suffered a bit from its origin, the movie felt split into sections disjointed, but as the ending drew closer, the filmed pulled everything together very nicely and Rorschach's last scene really hit me. very good movie, only way it could have been better is if it was longer. splicing it into 2 movies wouldnt have worked, the first movie would ba all background info, flashbacks, etc... with no real story development. truthfully, i dont think we

CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE

The Watchmen is a good movie. The problem is this. In order to present a cohesive story that was going to appease the fanboys and appeal to middle America certain things had to be changed and some things left out. The suffers from this malaise in being a little long on length while shaving off things fanboys felt made the novel classic. I believe the movie accomplished what it set out to do. Tell the story in such a way that middle America could follow and fanboys could begrudgingly admit

The suffers from this malaise in being a little long on length while shaving off things fanboys felt made the novel classic. I believe the movie accomplished what it set out to do. Tell the story in such a way that middle America could follow and fanboys could begrudgingly admit was faithful to the novel. Producers had one shot at this novel and with comic book hero attendance at an all time high, there was no other time to strike. Watchmen does suffer from the cult following syndrome as well. People don't really know of The Watchmen. Batman has been engrained in the American psyche for so long, even a decent Dark Knight does well. The cult following and word of mouth amongst fanboys sometime can be boon. This time it wasn't bust but it wasn't boon either. Fanboys should be grateful about the outcome even if they hate or dislike the movie because if cultish genre movies such as Watchmen continue to perform poorly, Hollywood won't make any more and fanboys will go back to complaining that they don't make movies from good source material such as Watchmen. Watchmen will make it's money back from overseas, merchandising and the multiple DVD releases that are sure to follow in the coming months. No, there will be no sequel but hopefully Hollywood will not abandon taping graphic novels as source material for movies because as good as Watchmen is, there are many, many great graphic novels that could make good movies if handled as well as Watchmen is.

I don't pin numbers to movies, but it was pretty bad in nearly every way.
