Charlotte's Web spun

10.13.2003

Academy Award-nominated writer Susannah Grant (ERIN BROCKOVICH) has signed on to write an adaptation of the children's classic CHARLOTTE'S WEB to be turned into a live-action/CGI film for Paramount Pictures. The studio is currently courting Brad Silberling - who has experience with kids' movies on CASPER and is currently working with Paramount on LEMONY SNICKET - to direct. WEB, in case you've been living under a rock, follows a young piglet named Wilbur who's destined for the slaughterhouse until a spider (Charlotte) spins webs with messages for the farmer like "Some Pig." The farmer realizes that Wilbur truly is special and enters him in a contest at the County fair. The book was last adapted into movie form via the classic 1973 Hanna-Barbera cartoon for which it's most often associated. Now that a new CHARLOTTE'S WEB is coming, one can only wonder when a live-action SECRET OF NIMH movie is on the way.
