Vive la New France!

11.11.2003

A little piece of (somewhat) appropriate Canadiana movie news on this cold and wet Remembrance Day (same idea as Veterans Day in the States). Lions Gate Films International has picked up a good portion of the co-production costs for a film called NEW FRANCE. Here is how The Hollywood Reporter sums up he film: Set in 1759 against the backdrop of the struggle between England and France to control Canada, NEW FRANCE centers on a tragic love story between a feisty peasant woman and an adventurous trapper portrayed by Noemie Godin-Vigneau and David La Haye, who are little known outside their native Canada. Ummm I live in the country and have no idea who these people are. Anyway, before you berate me with hate-mail for posting an article about a sappy love story (albeit set during a "battle") that next to nobody who reads this site has any interest in, check out the supporting cast that has been assembled. Gerard Depardieu, Tim Roth, Jason Isaacs, Vincent Perez, Irene Jacob and Colm Meaney are all set to co-star in the Canadian/France/U.K. production, which I gotta say, ain't too shabby. Maybe now I'll actually be interested enough to watch a film about the history of this country after having dull text books shoved down my throat throughout school.

For a second day in a row, I have a story with no obvious pic to go with it (technically I guess I could include a shot of Depardieu, but I don't think anyone wants to see that!). So sticking with the Canadian theme, enjoy the surprisingly slutted-down picture of Pamela Anderson above. Mmmmm Mmmmm! Non stick Pam...
