A dealer and a scholar

11.14.2003

Indie production outfit FilmEngine has gotten their hands on the rights to the pretty extraordinary real life story of National Merit Scholar and Washington State star athlete (he was even drafted by the Seattle Mariners) William Wright. So what makes his story so intriguing that it stands out from a crowd of hundreds of other high school over achievers? Well how about the fact that, by his mid-teens, he had already made $70 million big ones? But were not talking the next Bill Gates here, more like the next Pablo Escobar. Yup, that's right, by the age of 16 he was the mastermind behind a multi-million dollar international drug and money laundering ring, all the while maintaining his honor role and star running back status in high school. Talk about your go-getter! Unfortunately for him though, he was soon there after busted in a sting operation and sentenced to 10 years in prison. At the age of 26, he was released in 2002 after serving 8 years for his... um... entrepreneurial endeavor, and has since proceeded to sell his life story so it could be made into another type of drug called films.

Hey, hey, looky here! Another story without an obvious pic to go with it (no I'm not picking stories like this on purpose)! We did the sports/cheerleader thing last week, so lets go with the drug angle here. Mmmmmmmm... half decent looking Courtney Love...
