Allen skips Christmas

11.24.2003

The last time Revolution Studios head Joe Roth directed a film, it was the abyssmal AMERICA'S SWEETHEARTS. The time before that it was REVENGE OF THE NERDS 2: NERDS IN PARADISE. Apparently this hasn't deterred the man from work behind the camera and he will next direct an adaptation of the John Grisham novel SKIPPING CHRISTMAS. Tim Allen has signed on to star in the film about a man who, with his wife, decides to avoid Christmas and all its commercial trappings with a nice, relaxing vacation. But when their daughter decides to return home to spend the holidays with mom and dad, they're forced to ditch their plans. Chris Columbus, no stranger to Christmas films with HOME ALONE, wrote the script but turned down the chance to direct since he's on post-HARRY POTTER sabbatical. Allen's also no stranger to holiday films, having starred in both SANTA CLAUSE movies (with Roth producing while working at Disney). Production is scheduled to begin in April with a holiday 2004 release planned. Interestingly enough, the film will go head-to-head with Ben Affleck's SURVIVING CHRISTMAS, which is sure to confuse moviegoers.
