Since it's playing at the inflated 3D and IMAX ticket prices, it's going to make a lot of money initially. But for that very same reason (inflated prices) it's going to drop like a stone from the charts in the following weeks. Especially if the storyline is as mediocre as all the reviews are saying.

Limited fan base will mean #1 at the B.O., but not a gazillion bucks. I watch a lot of TV, and I haven't seen one single TV spot for this flick. Maybe I'm watching the wrong (in reality right) programs, but I've yet to see any promo for this flick on TV.

I went 80-100. The appeal on this flick for me = zero. My 3D Cash Grab boycott aside, it just isn't my kind of flick. Eye candy and not much more.

This should open very solid and if the reviews are any indication hold up pretty damn well. It has opening weekend, then two holiday weekends, plus the weekday xmas shoppers, that's 3 solid weekends. So I think it's looking good, not just for a good opening but a long solid run at the BO. Weeks 2 to 4 will tell just how much Avatar is gonna end up with. And I think a lot of people might underestimate its appeal to women as well.

Are you kidding?

People who voted for "0-40 M", are you NUTS? I don't know if Avatar is good or bad, but do you think that THIS movie will make this little money on it's opening weekend?
You guys should never try Wallstreet...

Avatar isnt going to appeal to a lot of people...It will most appeal to men ages 20 - 50. You know the people that grew up watching aliens and true lies and terminator which is why i voted for 40- 80.

I agree with darkface on the 80-120 mil. It sure won't have the legs "Titanic" had (teenage girls prefer vampires and wolf boys to blue aliens, I think), but it will open huge. And end up with gigantic loads of money.

This is a tough one to judge. It's not a sequel... and most teenagers don't even know who James Cameron is anymore. Good news is, I've heard a few non-movie buff co-workers talking about how they're going to see it opening weekend in 3D IMAX. So I'm guessin' between 80-120mil.
