3 new images from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire show off Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth

Apr. 12, 2013by: Paul Shirey

After THE HUNGER GAMES, star Jennifer Lawrence's stock took off, but it wasn't until SILVER LINING'S PLAYBOOK that it really soared. So, now it will be interesting to see the actress carry the burden of topping or just "leveling off" a performance in the highly-anticipated sequel, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE. I'd love to see her really unleash in the sequel, but since I haven't read past the first book (which was exceptionally underwhelming, in my opinion), I'm not sure if the material is there for her to do so.

The first teaser trailer for the film is set to debut during the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday (make sure to check back here for it as well) and in anticipation of it, the official Facebook page has released some new photos from the pic, which feature a stern-looking Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) and a similarly stoic Gale Hawthorne (Hemsworth). I'm interested to see how director Francis Lawrence (I AM LEGEND) tackles the material, as I feel he's a stronger choice than original helmer Gary Ross, especially in terms of the action/sci-fi elements. The teaser trailer will be most telling in that aspect.

Here's the pics:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

Here's the official synopsis:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Sam Clafin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Amanda Plummer, Jeffrey Wright, and Alan Ritchson, continues the love triangle of death marathon on November 22, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Are you more excited, less excited, or similarly excited for this sequel? I'm kind of "meh" on the whole thing, but I'm also not thirteen.

Catching Fire was the better book of the whole trilogy in my opinion & was actually very violent as well so it will be interesting to see how it will translate to the screen. Kinda wishing this movie were coming out sooner.

Like it

Although, like Freeden mentioned, the books go downhill from 1 to 3, the second one is still good. I liked the first movie, thought it was a well made movie. I say this because they could've just made a bad adaptation and still rake in the cash, instead they actually put some work in and the final product was good. As far as young adult books / movies go it's the best one since the later Harry Potters (later because the 1st 2 were children novels and the later ones were way darker and veered

So if you liked the first hunger games, the second one wont disappoint, the third though.... very disappointing.

I agree & the 3rd book was very disappointing that I could not even finish it since became too political, but yes I think people who are not familiar & just either wanna hate or think it's like Twilight need to grow up.

The movie was okay, just felt they push the love triangle thing too much these days with teen-bases movies. I know the books are like that, but come on. Not sure of Francis Lawrence making any improvement on this franchise. Even though I enjoyed Constantine and I am Legend, I'm just afraid more CGI is going to replace simple shit.

Don't count on this one topping the first film. Unless they make dramatic improvements to the source material, the quality degrades throughout the series. The book was so-so, and I can't imagine the movie doing much to improve upon it, so any hope for this to be better, at least in my mind, is very slim. But, I love Jen and I'll be there to see this film.

Sounds like you need to watch more of her if you think she is only capable of one expression.
