3 Stooges Coming

Nov. 4, 2008by: Daniel Barna

Hollywood loves a good remake. It's a shame remakes don't love Hollywood. That's why the Farrelly Brothers' attempt at a modern version of "The Three Stooges" must be met with much skepticism. Let's ignore the fact that the brohans have not had a bonafied hit in years. The simple fact that the The Stooges have such a loyal, built-in cult following means an automatic backlash is at hand.

According to Peter Farrelly,

Itís not a biopic. It takes place in present day, and they look, dress and sound exactly like the Stooges.

Apparently the (per-Obama) state of their country is the primary MO of this film.

When the economy started turning, we felt like the world could use a Stooges slapfest. Bobby and I havenít done a real physical comedy in a while, and itís the most exciting thing we could think of now, to have people go to the movie, see some great slapstick fun family humor.

Now that this film is officially in the pipeline, one can only wonder...who will play the beloved stooges? If any of you have such aspirations, there is a nation-wide search for the most physically gifted of the trio, Curly. Good luck, fatsos.

As long as they don't touch the Marx Brothers, I'll be fine with this.

On that note, however: who the f*ck could play Shep?

completely awful.

it's not even a Stooges film if it takes place in modern times.

the Farrelly bros. have really gone downhill.

While I'm no Stooges fan myself, this has to be one of the worst concepts to actually get this far in its evolution that I can remember hearing about.

People wouldn't flock to theaters to see a new Marx Brothers movie, or Laurel and Hardy movie. Curly, Larry, and Moe aren't a brand like James Bond, they were embodied by actual people who made them the icons they are now.

The closest thing to this I can think of was the idea of remaking "The Pink Panther" withoug Peter Sellers, but even

Since the Farrellys made it big taking inspiration from Stooges work, couldn't they just go back to doing that, rather than attempting to recapture whatever made the Stooges work in the first place?

Let me make some wild guesses:
Will Farrel as Larry
Jack Black as Curly
Jim Carrey as Moe

What a stooge-fest!

Why does hollywood insist on raping the things that I love? The three stooges was a concept carried out to perfection by three of the most gifted phsical comedians ever. It was not a story to be remade in modern times by men without a fraction of that talent. This is going to suck so bad, and the shit thing is, most of my generation only know of the Stooges by name and have never seen a single, solitary short. Goddamn...

In small skits the stooges are hilarious, but as a full length movie it'll bomb. Not unlike many of the movies based on SNL skits. Horrible idea.

So not cool on so many levels. I have never been so vehemently against a remake as I am for this. I want this to die now, before any more developments can be made. This is bull shit. Utter bull shit.

Why... please No!!!

Really? The three stooges movie set around today's times? First a "Halloween" remake, then I hear of the seven samurai, now another aspect of my life which i hold dear, the three stooges appear to be getting a rapeing by Hollywood. Hollywood has literally lost it's damn mind!!!!

So does this mean a modern day Three Stooges with no connection to actual Three Stooges (maybe some similarities) whatsoever? If that's the case, then it doesn't have to be Three Stooges. It can be just another screwball comedy. And I agree with BigShime, movies like Citizen Kane shouldn't be touched nor remade.

Maybe this is just an urban legend that I'm only helping spread, but I always heard that their plan was to make the movie with actors with mental disabilities which makes some since because they do work with a lot of actors with mental disabilities and I'm not talking about Woody Harrelson and Eva Mendes.

Why are we even debating this?

You know it's going to be some combination of Jim Carrey/Seth Rogan/Will Ferrell/John C. Reilley and, apparently, an unknown as Curly.

And, re: Bigshine... I think theoretically a remake of 'Gone With The Wind' could work, since the 1939 film depended so much more on story than style, and it drifted so far from the book.

Xzibit, Fiddy Cent and Ludakriz as the Stooges... why not. Makes about as much sense as anything else these days.

I personally would have just prefered a big compilation of stooges shows. But for moe, i think a very good choice would be Dustin Hoffman. Check out the way he looks in I Heart Huckabees, plus just look at his face, i think hed be a very good choice for Moe. As for Curly or Larry, im not so sure who could play either of them. But for Shemp, even though he may be a little tall, Ryan Stiles would be a a good choice. Hes got the face of Shemp, and i think he could definitely pull of the voice, i

There are a few thing should NOT touch: Citizen Kane, Gone With the Wind and the Stooges.

The only way i want to see any kind of Stooges ont the big screen is if it's to do with an Iggy Pop biopic.
