30 Days 2 director

09.02.2009by:

Because if there's anything we don't have enough of in popular culture these days, it's vampires, hence why a sequel to 30 DAYS OF NIGHT seems like a well timed idea to someone. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Ben Ketai is being tapped to direct the project, officially titled 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DARK DAYS, which will be competitng for the "redundant subtitle" award at next year's Oscars.

The film follows Stella Oleson once again (though she’s being recast from Melissa George this time) as she joins up with a group of vampire hunters to kill Lilith, the bloodsucker responsible for the attack on her town in the first movie.

You probably haven’t heard of Ketai, but he wrote two 30 DAYS miniseries titled BLOOD TRAILS and DUST TO DUST, so he’s definitely familiar with the source material. But really, do you think this will make it to theaters? All the pieces are there (complete recasting, stupid subtitle) for a straight to DVD release, but perhaps there are more people clamoring to see this than I’m assuming.

Extra Tidbit: Thankfully, because it's in Alaska, there are no shirtless vampires in this series.

How boring would 30 Nights Of Day be?

Just imagine a vampire movie with no vampires, basically just a movie.

Well what you rather have? 30 Days of Night 2? 30DoN2 as a constant abbreviation?

No thanks - I like when movies don't use numbers to remind you they're sequels. (I'll say it, for a change: 'The Dark Night,' as opposed to 'Batman Begins 2: The Dark Knight.')

i liked 30 days of night

Hey I actually loved the first movie! Of course this is shitty news because I really think a good sequel shown in cinemas would do the series some good. 30 Days Of Night had scary vampires (yes, believe it or not, vampires were actually MEANT to be scary, TwiHeads!), it had the perfect setting, it was frightening...the whole concept of being isolated in one of the coldest places on Earth with f'n vampires out to devour you is *gulp* terrifying!

Anyway, sucky news. A decent sequel would have

why recast? that will just make this a crappy stand alone movie and less of a sequal/extension to a solid flick

30 Days was pretty much the only vampire franchise I had respect for. That film had such talent around in, infront of the camera and behind it. (so-so on Josh Hartnett)

But Melissa Geroge was great in that. Why not try and get her back with the dollar signs?

This movie didn't have such a grat following when it came out, which is why they probably don't care if it is on the big screen or not, and thus not really willing to go the extra mile on the budget either.

But you would

But you would think with the rise of vampire craziness they would want to go all out with this and claim another stake....I guess not

A Worse Title Would Be...

30 Days of Night 2. Don't understand Paul's problem with subtitles, seems like unnecessary bitching. It worked great for Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days. We really couldn't gather that a "day" of "night" would in fact be a "dark day"?

No Melissa George? Did she finally not get signed on to not play that character that will totally not be a hit come award season, and is therefor not too busy to reprise her role?

Shitty title

Looking forward to the 2nd part even if the title sucks monkey balls. I hope they change it by the time they release it.

Am I the only person that sees the irony in how the director for 30 Days of Night is now the director for Twilight 3? WTF is that about?

Slade's gotta eat. Hell, HE isn't even that happy to do it. Wasn't there a story on here a while back about him shit talking "Twilight" like a day after he got signed to 3?

30 Days of Night...

was the last movie that I saw in which vampires were hardcore, bad ass, killers. Now with Twilight, True Blood and that new vamp show coming on the cw... it seems like vampires have been pussyed up a bit, i need more hardcore vampires.

Well, since this one takes place in L.A., there may be some shirtless vamps.

Honestly, I wish they (the studio) had retained an actual director the first time around (someone with some skill and talent) because that's what the story needed. Unfortunately, it looks like more of the same for the sequel.
