Seinfeld returns!

12.09.2003

Jerry Seinfeld no doubt fielded tons of movie offers since walking away from his hit TV series "Seinfeld" in 1998. But so far he's turned every one down (aside from the documentary COMEDIAN, which he participated in) opting instead to focus on stand-up comedy again. But you knew that eventually some of his high-profile friends would get to him and wear him down and sure enough they have. Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg have convinced Jerry Seinfeld to write, produce and voice the CGI-animated comedy BEE MOVIE for DreamWorks. BEE (which is likely a tentative title) is based on an original idea by Seinfeld and the comedian has already begun writing the script. Of the concept Seinfeld said, "I have always been fascinated by bee society, the world's most harmoniously run organization." The project came about when Seinfeld ran into Spielberg in the Hamptons and they began talking about ideas. Spielberg sparked to the bee idea and quickly brought DreamWorks' animation guru Katzenberg into the mix. The rest, as they say, is history. The film will likely be set up at PDI, the same company who animated SHREK and the upcoming SHARK TALE. The project is still some time off and isn't expected to see the light of day for at least another four years. But throughout that time, Seinfeld is expected to remain involved in all aspects of production. Says Katzenberg, "Not a word is going to be spoken, a picture drawn, a character or visual style created that doesn't reflect his sensibility and, most importantly, his choices."
