2004 Dreamworks 1/2

Wow...now that's what I call an exciting 2004 movie line-up! DREAMWORKS has just released its slate of films for the upcoming year and it's quite the doozy. You want directors? How about Steven Spielberg, Michael Mann, Barry Levinson, Martin Scorsese (okay, he's only voicing a character in the animated SHARK TALE, but still) You want top box-office draws? How about Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck, Jack Black, Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Ben Stiller. You want more coolness? How about Christopher Walken, a sequel to one of the most successful animated films of all-time, SHREK 2 and Will Ferrell's follow-up to ELF called ANCHORMAN-- which he co-wrote as well! Now I haven't seen all of the studios' line-ups yet, but my God, Dreamworks is definitely playing for keeps this year. And I didn't even mention the ideally targeted teen road flick, EUROTRIP, or the sequel to THE RING....puff, puff. Read all about it below...

Director: Adam McKay

Starring: Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, David Koechner, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Fred Willard, Chris Parnell, Kevin Corrigan, Tara Subkoff, Maya Rudolph

Plot: Will Ferrell stars as Ron Burgundy, the top-rated anchorman in San Diego in the ‘70s. When feminism marches into the newsroom in the form of ambitious newswoman Veronica Corningstone (Applegate), Ron is willing to play along at first—as long as Veronica stays in her place, covering cat fashion shows, cooking, and other "female" interests. But when Veronica refuses to settle for being eye candy and steps behind the news desk, it’s more than a battle between two perfectly coiffed anchor-persons…it’s war.

Director: Michael Mann

Starring: Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Jada Pinkett Smith, Mark Ruffalo, Peter Berg, Bruce McGill

Plot: An L.A. cabdriver (Foxx) is forced to drive a contract killer (Cruise) around town, as he partakes on a string of hits. Mark Ruffalo plays the detective hot on the killer's trailer.

Director: Barry Levinson

Starring: Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Christopher Walken, Rachel Weisz, Amy Poehler

Plot: Tim (Ben Stiller) and Nick (Jack Black) are best friends, neighbors and co-workers, whose equal footing is suddenly tripped up when one of Nick’s harebrained get-rich-quick schemes actually succeeds: Vapoorizer, a spray that literally makes dog poop, or any other kind for that matter, evaporate into thin air—to where exactly is anyone’s guess. Tim, who had poo-pooed Nick’s idea and passed on an opportunity to get in on the deal, can only watch as Nick’s fortune—and Tim’s own envy—grow to equally outrageous proportions. The flames of jealousy are fanned by an oddball drifter (Christopher Walken) who takes it upon himself to help fix Tim’s situation, but only causes Tim’s life to careen more wildly out of control…and Nick’s with it.

Director: Jeff Schaffer

Starring: Scott Mechlowicz, Jessica Boehrs, Jacob Pitts, Michelle Trachtenberg, Travis Wester

Plot: Have you ever pressed "Send" on an email and immediately wished you could get it back? Scotty Thomas (Scott Mechlowicz) and his Berlin-based computer pen pal Mieke (Jessica Boehrs) have been writing each other for years, sharing every detail of their lives. When Mieke makes a cyber pass at Scotty, he completely freaks out, thinking that this guy he’s known for years is coming on to him…in German no less. Too bad the the one detail Scotty doesn’t seem to know is that, in Germany, Mieke is a girl’s name.

By the time Scotty figures out that Mieke is a girl, and a hot one at that, Mieke has cut off her email account and all contact with him. Thinking that this might be his one chance at true love—even though he’s never actually met the girl—Scotty and his best friends, Cooper (Jacob Pitts) and the twins Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg) and Jamie (Travis Wester), embark on a raucous trip across Europe headed for Berlin. Their trek takes them from London to Paris to Amsterdam and Eastern Europe, exposing them—literally—to every lascivious, larcenous and lecherous indulgence Europe has to offer, in a comedy that gives new meaning to the phrase "foreign relations."

Director: Noam Murro

Starring: Naomi Watts, David Dorfman

Plot: Naomi Watts, who starred in the smash hit horror thriller THE RING, returns to star as investigative reporter Rachel Keller in the sequel, THE RING 2 which will mark the feature film directorial debut of award-winning commercial director Noam Murro. Ehren Kruger, who scripted the first film, is writing the sequel, which is being produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, the producers of the original THE RING.
