Onliners 2003 picks!

12.30.2003

THE ONLINE FILM CRITICS SOCIETY ANNOUNCES ITS 2003 NOMINATIONS

If you're like me and consider most "film critics" and their "groups" and "societies" to be a bunch of frumpy old guys who sit around and jerk off to the sound of each others' best quotes, you'll be happy to hear about one of the only awards that I actually do put some stock into: the ONLINE FILM CRITICS SOCIETY awards. What makes these jokers better than most is their knack to include critics of all sex, age, race, country, language, height, weight, color, religion, tastes, etc... They've been around since 1998, and I'm happy to fully disclose that I've also been a member of that group since that time (even though one of their more "feminine" members once compared my frivolous write-ups to Hitler...don't ask)

All that to say that I believe their selections to be a tad closer to those of "actual people" out there, but obviously not as close as the one that we hold on our little website every year, a little something we call: THE GOLDEN SCHMOES!! As a sidebar, it's to note that we will be running our 3rd annual nominations period from January 12-22, with the final nominations being announced on January 26, to be voted on by everyone and the winners announced on February 10th. All can participate! If you don't know about the GOLDEN SCHMOES: read more here.

That said, check out the very cool OFCS nominations below (major cheers for CITY OF GOD but major jeers for THE LAST SAMURAI diss), including some very cool surprises. THE RETURN OF THE KING nabbed the most nominations with 11, followed closely by QT and his intention to KILL BILL with 10, LOST IN TRANSLATION (6), MYSTIC RIVER (5) and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (5). Winners will be announced on January 5, 2004. More info on the noms here ->
