First trailer for Sofia Coppola's Somewhere is now online

Jun. 15, 2010by: George Merchan

Writer/Director/Producer Sofia Coppola's upcoming film SOMEWHERE now has its first trailer, and it certainly feels like Coppola, with thoughtful and enigmatic imagery married only to the sounds of Phoenix's "Love Like a Sunset Part II" and The Strokes' "I'll Try Anything Once". Excellent selections.

SOMEWHERE is set to open on December 22nd. See the trailer below or check it in HD over at Apple.

Synopsis: Writer/director Sofia Coppola reunites with the film company with which she made the Academy Award-winning hit "Lost in Translation." Her new film is an intimate story set in contemporary Los Angeles; Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning), Johnny is forced to look at the questions we must all confront.

Extra Tidbit: The band Phoenix makes a cameo appearance in Coppola's unfairly disparaged MARIE ANTOINETTE.

Just spreading more Sofia love with a green band. Can't wait. It's such a blessing that there are still filmmakers out there who can make movies about moods and feelings. I'm also glad to see there's a lot of love for Sofia. Marie Antoinette is an overlooked masterpiece that I hope will one day get its recognition.

Why the hell do I always get Stephen Dorff and Peter Sarsgaard mixed up?

Looked good. I like her style, and she's always gotten great performances from her cast.

Anybody see a movie Dorff did a while back called Entropy? Great movie, and I've wanted to see him get back to that kind of thing for a long time, good to see he's doing some quality stuff.

I thought it felt very much like Entropy as well. Man, that was a pretty underrated flick back in the day... Hard to believe it was released way back in '99...

Looks great. I love these type of slow moving dull, chill and relaxing type movies. Lost In Translation is one of my favorite movies and was a great movie. This looks no different. Good for Stephen Dorff, guy deserves more roles.

Awesome! The Strokes!!!

I'm actually a big fan of Sofia Coppola. I actually think Lost in Translation is one of the best modern films ever made. This movie looks like a true winner. If I had one little complaint is that I wish Sofia could write a movie that wasn't about herself. She's obviously writing about her relationship with her father. My scriptwritng teacher Hates her. He often feels like Sofia comes across as a spoiled brat. At the moment I disagree with him, but if she starts doing the same movie over and

Quite adorable looking.

I got nuttin bad to say about it. Great to see Stephen Dorff back and taking on serious roles again. Maybe Michael Mann had a sit-down with him on Public Enemies. I especially like how Sofia captured a less fucked-up side of L.A.; I'll definitely be checking this out at the end of the year.
