Weekend Box-Office

WEEKEND BOX-OFFICE

Been there, done that...

No major surprises at the box-office this weekend, with virtually every single film remaining in the exact same spot as it was last week, with only small drops of between 10-25% for each one. RETURN OF THE KING continued its dominance of the box-office with its third week at the top spot, followed by the "family hit" of the holidays, CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN. The only newcomer to this week's race was CALENDAR GIRLS, which opened a little wider this past weekend, and managed to sneak into 9th spot by doing so. I was a little surprised to see that THE LAST SAMURAI was still chugging ahead, and that it might hit the $100 million mark after all. That would be sweet...it deserves it. No new films were released over the past weekend, so nothing else penetrated the list. Next week will see the addition of the new year's "dump flicks" including CHASING LIBERTY and MY BABY'S DADDY. Tim Burton's BIG FISH will also be receiving a wider release, opening in no less than 2,500 screens next weekend. The rest of the month looks pretty shitty though, so sit back and enjoy your winter "catch up" dvds for the next few weeks...
