Comic Book trailer

01.15.2004

When I first read about COMIC BOOK: THE MOVIE, I was pretty excited. In fact, an article I wrote about it actually helped me land this gig as a wanna-be writer for JoBlo.com. So now the trailer for the DVD has hit and while it's not as fun as I had hoped, there's still some promising things happening. First of all, you can't look past the cameos in this flick; Kevin Smith (there's my quota for mentioning Kev every day on this site), Bruce Campbell, Matt Groening, Stan Lee, Hugh Hefner, and Sid Ceasar to name a few. But what I enjoyed the most about the clip is Mark Hamill. One minute, he's borderline Adam West, almost making a mockery of his one time super stardom and the next, he actually comes across as pretty funny. That last rant about Affleck in PEARL HARBOR cracked me up quite a bit.

If you don't know already, Hamill plays Don Swan, a grade school teacher and comic book historian. When Timely Studios decides to go ahead with a plan to base a film on Commander Courage titled Codename: Courage, they hire Don to shoot an extra feature for the eventual DVD at the San Diego Comic Con. Turns out Don is Commander Courage's number one fan and as he begins to find out more and more about the studio's decisions for the film, the more he realizes it must be stopped. Donna D'Errico also stars as Liberty Lass. The DVD comes out on January 27th and you can order it here. If you're in the Hollywood area you can catch a one time only screening of the film at Laemmle's Sunset 5 theatre on Sunset Blvd. on January 21st at 7:30pm and 10;00pm (wouldn't that be two times?)
