WEEKEND BOX-OFFICE

Along Came a New #1 Movie

It looks like having the names Ben and Jennifer aren't always bad when starring in a motion picture, as both Stiller and Aniston scored big with their new romantic comedy ALONG CAME POLLY, opening with a huge $27.6 million and first place at the weekend box-office. That total is the biggest amount for a January comedic release ever. RETURN OF THE KING was finally knocked off its crown after no less than 4 consecutive weeks at the top spot. Nice. What the heck TORQUE was doing in third place is anyone's guess, but Tim Burton's BIG FISH continued to hang on to second spot, for the second week in a row. Disney's TEACHER'S PET, the other new release of the week didn't even crack the top 10 with a measly $2.4 million in receipts. It wasn't the most exciting of weekends, but it moved things along, so that we can hopefully start getting to some better movies soon. This coming week has a couple of possibilities with THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT and WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON vying for the top spot.

 1. Along Came Polly  $  27.6 Million/ New
 2. Big Fish  $  10.4 Million/ $ 38.0 Million

 5. Cheaper by the Dozen  $   8.8 Million/ $ 112.0 Million
