First Cars 2 teaser hits along with some concept art

Oct. 20, 2010by: Paul Tassi

We've known the vague plot of CARS 2 for a while now, but as of today we can have it described to us, vaguely, in video form.

The first teaser trailer for the Pixar film I LEAST wanted to see sequelized, and it's not much, but it's something I suppose. It informs Lightning and Mater are now secret agents, presumably aided by the previously announced Bond-style car , Finn McMissile. Sadly, he doesn't make an appearance in this exceptionally short teaser.

The film centers around an international "Race of Champions," and below the teaser, you can see some pieces of new concept art from the film, depicting various famous locales. Check out those pics along with the trailer below:

Extra Tidbit: No word on who will be voicing McMissile, but if I had to venture a guess, remember that Timothy Dalton just had a role in TOY STORY 3.

I'm glad to see Pixar taking next year off. The bombard of great films after great films is getting so tiring.

I love your tidbit's, Tassi. They're so deliciously obvious.

I haven't seen Cars

but it makes no sense to me. I've asked people, so to my knowledge in their world, there are no people? Who lives in those little houses? Who occupies the Houses of Parliament in the concept drawings? Where do the decals on the vehicles come from? Who builds the cars? etc etc

WHY NO SEQUEL TO THE INCREDIBLES?

Of all the PIXAR movies that ones the best candidate for sequels given the nature of the superhero genre.

Crossing Fingers

Had no other Pixar movies been released before Cars, the movie would have been hailed as fantastic. But because we all had their other masterpieces to compare it to, it got some bad vibes. Understandable. It was still a really good flick and we can only hope this doesn't break the streak.

I'm willing to give it a decent shot

Cars was a B-grade film from a studio that usually produces A-grade movies. If DreamWorks Animation or Fox/Blue Sky had produced it, people would like it a lot more.

Besides, Toy Story's sequels turned out pretty good (/understatement).

Honestly, that was all I needed.

To be honest, that was all I needed to put my fears to rest, at least somewhat. Not sure if I like the "secret agent" thing (unless that's a joke), but that's okay.

One major problem I have with this teaser is that a lot of people that aren't keen with the internet might think the words at the beginning are leading up to The Incredibles 2. And that would be quite the disappointment if I were in the theater.

Still like the teaser a lot, though, as tiny as it is :)

I'm sure 99% of you will gasp...

i HATED the incredibles.(see those caps?) it shouldve been called "fantastic 4 more". (though storywise, i do think its pixar's best candidate for a second film)
now...for every post that states that theyre not liking what theyre seeing...i have to ask...what the fuck did you see? did i click the wrong video? jeezuz, theres nothing to see yet! typical internet "look at me! i'm being negative cuz it garners more attention!" posts.
oh, and piss on cars 2, bring on Monsters Inc. 2.
thanks for

Loved the first one. Every child owns the movie and loves it. Pixar has made fantastic movies and Cars may not be Oscar worthy but its for the kids i and the abundance of revenue they'll receive off merchandise. Looking forward to it and im sure the most the general public will be too.

I still haven't seen 3 Pixar movies, and Cars is one of them.

I try to avoid Danny The Plumber Guy like the plague, so yeah. Just the sound of his stupid voice makes me cringe. BUT, after reading everyone's responses thus far, I have been inspired to finally check it out. I'll even watch my parents copy tonight. Thanks ya'll.

I don't know how this story line fits in but I have to say I am expecting some great. Cars was a Good movie, not pixars best but for kids it is probably their 4 or 5th favorite after toy story 1,2, and 3 (not in that order). Kids love all pixar movies but the ones most of say are the best ones (walle, Up, incredibles) are not their favorites and they are the ones who count. If I could pick the next sequel it would have to be either Toy Story 4 lol, Incredibles, or walle

Like it or not, Disney/Pixar is making this one for the kids and for a boat load of merchandise money. Cars figures to be the biggest movie franchise ever in the toy industry (besides Star Wars) after this film.

Pixar could draw a stick figure on a white canvas and it would still be awesome. Who's to know, maybe they thought that Cars was a their weakest link in an otherwise indestructible chain and by doing a sequel they may hope to redeem themselves in the eyes of their loyal followers. I for one loved Cars and everything they have done so far and yes being at the bottom of Pixars list is better than being at the top of Dreamworks.

Sorry Dreamworks, you're still better than the rest though. :-)

Well, I like Cars

I know there are a lot of people who hate the original cars. Well, I'm not one of them. In fact, I think of all the Pixar movies, Cars is the most rewatchable for me. I've seen it quite a few times. Maybe because I actually don't have a problem with talking cars, or that I actually became invested in these characters, or maybe its that I appreciated the concept of slowing down and how it was presented (by using a slow pace). Whatever it is, I like Cars and I'm excited for Cars 2.

Why?

Why? Because it's story is actually interesting. An international race with exotic locales? Great. Mater being confused for a secret agent? Sounds like a funny scenario to me. I suspect this will also have a faster pace, since it is centered around a race, so that might appease those who thought the first one was boring. I don't care what others say: I'm excited for this film.

Oh, and as good as The Incredibles was, I find that movie far more boring than Cars. I definitely don't view it as more rewatchable.

Okay, I'll give you that Pixar and Disney both make "good" movies. What their movies are not anymore is unique. Run of the mill, weepy, "profound" bulls*it. It's all the same. They're not the greatest animation studio in the world anymore. No one can be that forever.

I have two nephews, a four year-old and a 6 year-old. Guess what their favourite Pixar movie is? Yup. 'Cars'. It's big money, which is why it's getting a sequel.

Well...

I didn't mind Cars. But try to keep in mind that these movies are not necessarily for fanboys, these are kids cartoons. Anybody with a kid that loved Cars (and every kid did) will tell you all about the shit ton of Cars merchandise they had to purchase after the first movie came out. Is Pixar a quality studio? Of course. Are they also a business that needs to make money? Damn right.

You guys need...

...to get used to this kind of thing from Disney/Pixar, I'm telling you right now. Anybody surprised by this is kidding themselves. Mater's line in the teaser is very appropriate: "I think we bit off more than we can chew." Did Pixar know what they were in for when they merged with Disney? Probably. And the driving force there was money. That's all I'm saying.

I have to agree with you on the Pixar/Dreamworks issue. I've read several of your posts regarding the [link] likes/dislikes, etc. I must say that Dreamworks does do a far superior job in their studios, especially with their writing. Pixar is a 1 note song (but still has good story telling as well, none the less).

I love all the Pixar films. Not a bad one yet in my opinion. I liked Cars and would even put it above Incredibles on my list. In fact I would probably put Incredibles at the bottom of my list of Pixar movies which isn't a bad thing because I would consider being at the bottom of a Pixar list better than being at the top of a Dreamworks list.

All that aside, I can understand it definitely. People like superheros more than they enjoy talking cars. And although I did enjoy Cars more I would

All that aside, I can understand it definitely. People like superheros more than they enjoy talking cars. And although I did enjoy Cars more I would actually agree that an Incredibles sequel makes much more sense. However, I have learned to just sit back and let Pixar do their thing and not get upset. I was worried when I read the plots to Wall-E, Ratatouille, Up, and you guessed it, Cars. But as it turns out, I ended up loving each one more than the last. So I have learned to trust Pixar and their decisions. So an Incredibles sequel may make more sense to us fans than a Cars sequel, but I truly trust Pixar to make whatever film they think will be better and I won't doubt their decisions.

Whats great about Pixar though is that although an Incredibles sequel would be easy to do, they would opt to give it a storyline that is more difficult to work with. When it comes for a sequel to Incredibles I am sure Pixar will make something spectacular that will eclipse the first one. Not going to lie either, even after all the bullshit I typed out earlier, still nervous about the Cars sequel. Optimistic but nervous. Their films have been progressively getting better and I don't know how

Cars was not good enough to need a sequel. It was by FAR the worst Pixar movie. It was still much better than anything Dreamworks does, but still, I would prefer a new story with new characters before seeing a rehash of lame vehicle jokes
