The Fountain

By a long shot. But all four of these are terrific films. Aronofsky is a beast.

The Fountain for me

The Fountain is probably my second favorite film (and one of the ones I re-watch to most and I don't re-watch many films.) It's a beautiful movie to me and one that I constantly find new things to appreciate when watching. For example, next time you watch it, look for things in the background (usually lighting) that looks like stars and the night sky or planets. It's in many, many scenes and I didn't really notice it until recently. I find it to be a very sad and moving film that is also

The Fountain, hands down. Still the only movie I've ever come out of speechless.

RFAD

RFAD is my fave. It is his most powerful work. I rate The Fountain as the most disappointing of the group. Wolverine is too pedestrian for his creative talents.

Requiem for a Dream is the best anti drug campaign I've ever seen. The soundtrack is haunting, and the scene where Leto and Connelly are laying on the couch staring at each other almost brings me to tears every watch.

Fountain

While Requiem is a masterpiece and absolutely gut wrenching, I gotta go with The Fountain. Such a sad, beautiful film.

I voted The Fountain but really, it's a 3 way tie with RFAD and The Wrestler. The Fountain has a certain beauty that makes me want to watch it again and again. RFAD has spectacular performances and a haunting score. The Wrestler is also brilliantly acted.

The only movie I don't like of his is PI. It was just too chaotic, too ugly, too loud, and too weird for my tastes. I'll give it a rewatch but it gave me a headache the first time. It seems most agree that it's his weakest.

Yeah, The Wolverine should be listed because I'd vote for that sight unseen!

Requiem

Black Swan, The Fountain and his other works were amazing, but Requiem is dark, unflinching and remorseless.

Aranofsky is a schizophrenic film maker. Pi is just your average student film, to me. Eraserhead for Gen X. The Fountain was overly ambitious sentimental b.s. Requiem For a Dream has been his only truly successful mindbender. And as for the Wrestler; Look, I like the Wrestler. I am not part of the Wrestler backlash. However, it is shockingly pedestrian and his direction is pretty over rated for that flick.

Darren

I think that his movies are great, if you know what you're getting into. His movies are very one-dimensional and are generally nightmarish. There is no redemption in his movies in the regular "movie" sense.

I know 99% of the people here love Aronofsky but what about an option for none of the above? Some of us find him over rated. I've seen everything but The Wrestler (It's on my table now and I'll be watching it soon) and he's yet to impress me. I think he tries far too hard.
He's not a bad director. I just don't like his movies.

How about the option of not voting in every single poll on JoBlo? We're sorry you screwed up your perfect record of voting every time.

Requiem for a Dream

It's the movie that has made me cry and it's also Darren's most depressing. The Fountain comes in at second, then Pi, and I wasn't that impressed with The Wrestler.

I don't have a favorite...

... as all of his films have been terrible.

However, if I could go with the one I disliked the least, I'd say 'The Wrestler,' but only for the ending.

The Fountain

Easily The Fountain, but The Wrestler is close behind. I remember seeing Requiem for a Dream at a friend's place and being really disappointed by it. Not only was it overhyped by everyone around me, but I also found it way too bleak, depressing and moralizing for my taste.

The Fountain, on the other hand, was criminally underrated if you ask me. It was such a beautiful movie, both visually and narratively. And this is also one of the rare movies where the musical score really REALLY moved me.

The Fountain

The Fountain is a great movie and one of the few movies to really surprise me.

This might change though after I see what he does with "The Wolverine", since he and Jackman did a fantastic job with "The Fountain", and the fact that Wolverine is such a great character.
