JoBlo.com's Top 10 Trailers of 2010: Super 8

Welcome to the 10 Best Trailers of 2010. This is the 10th Annual List dating back to 2001 and my sixth year bringing it exclusively to JoBlo.com. If you visit the Trailers Page frequently, you should know my tastes quite well. Keep coming back for the rest of the year and we'll slowly be rolling out the Top 10 one by one. Sometimes great trailers make great movies and other times they make you see awful movies. Don't hesitate to strike back below if you think I must be completely nuts. (Also, keep in mind that some trailers that you've seen this year were on last year's list.)

# 6 SUPER 8

One of two teasers on this list, SUPER 8 delivers a fascinating action scene that teases with a lot of possibilities. Is this a space alien movie? Is this magic? Hell, does Shrek pop out of that train? The suspense is killing me! This teaser is one of the best that Iíve seen because it lays the ground work with great action and imagery without a single sign line of dialogue. I am really excited to see what JJ Abrams has in store for us, especially since this is just the beginning.

THE REST OF THE LIST SO FAR:

#10 KICK-ASS Red Band Trailer
#9 BURIED Trailer
#8 THE TOWN Trailer
#7 INCEPTION Trailer
#6 SUPER 8 Trailer
#5 WINNEBAGO MAN Trailer
#4 SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD International Trailer
#3 COWBOYS & ALIENS Teaser
#2 TRON: LEGACY Trailer
#1 THE SOCIAL NETWORK Trailer

Extra Tidbit: If Shrek does pop out of this train car I'm asking for my money back.

The Super 8 trailer really worked for me, but the better the trailer, the higher our expectations. So that's what I call a double-edged blade.

Im gonna say I agree. I love the marketing for everything Abrams is involved with that has that mystery effect. It's an effective teaser for, what looks to be, an interesting project. I agree, Cloverfield's teaser was more effective, but this has that same fun mystery effect.

The SUPER 8 trailer did nothing for me, personally. I know Abrams thinks he's The Riddler, but I'm tired of his mystery bullshit. I'd rather have STAR TREK 2.

I agree that the trailer for THE SOCIAL NETWORK is the best of the year.

It was an ok trailer. Nothing great or top list worthy. It did build suspense though, but I thought a teaser like the one for another Abrams movie "Cloverfield", was much more effective.

Still calling "The Social Network" as the best trailer for 2010.
