Peter Jackson announces new Hobbit roles, including one for Stephen Fry
I didn't realize that at this point THE HOBBIT was still adding cast members, but that would seem to be the case a few new actors have joined up, as announced by Peter Jackson himself.
The most notable of these is Stephen Fry, next seen as Mycroft in SHERLOCK HOLMES 2, but is best known for his awesome comedy show with a very young Hugh Laurie back in the Ď80s. Well, best known to me at least.
Hereís what Jackson had to say about Fryís addition, as well as the other new roles cast.
"We are thrilled to confirm that Stephen Fry will be playing The Master of Laketown. Iíve known Stephen for several years, and weíre developing a DAMBUSTERS movie together. In addition to his writing skills, heís a terrific actor and will create a very memorable Master for us.
The Masterís conniving civil servant, Alfrid will be played by Ryan Gage. Ryan is a great young actor who we originally cast in a small role, but we liked him so much, we promoted him to the much larger Alfrid part.
Last, and certainly not least, is Conan Stevens, who will be playing an Orc called Azog (Orcs are never called Roger or Dennis for some strange reason). And yes thatís his nameóConan! Isnít that cool? Azog is played by Conan!"
Well Iíll be damned if Iím not really looking forward to this. I used to love having a new LOTR movie every Christmas, and it will be nice to have some of that magic back.
