Parker gets Stranger

03.15.2004

Remember those uplifting and positive message pounding after school specials that taught us how to deal with the dangers of being a clueless kid? Throw everything those shows ever taught you out the window along with your morals and any political correctness and you have STRANGERS WITH CANDY. Comedy Central's comedy classic is headed for the big screen and they're bringing along some new friends. New York's favorite couple, Mathew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker have signed on to the production that is scheduled to start shooting in June of this year. Strangers became a cult hit with it's dark satire and effort to pull no punches with controversial plots and dialogue. Amy Sedaris, who headlines as Jerri Blank, and co-creators  Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert (The Daily Show) starred in the show about a 46 year old high school freshman that looks to turn her life around after 30 years of mixing in booze, drugs, pimps, and prison. The show ran for three seasons starting in 1999. Sedaris is good friends with Broderick and Parker and had a recurring role as Carrie Bradshaw's editor on HBO's Sex and the City. TV Guide says that Parker will play a "very funny, sexy French teacher" and Broderick will be a man "who comes between  Jellineck and Noblet," two teachers with a taboo fondness of each other, played brilliantly by Dinello and Colbert.

The first two seasons of the show are available on DVD now with the last season set for this coming fall. You can read all about the show and it's stars at my favorite SWC website, JerriBlank.com.
