Rambo: Last Stand script completed but will Stallone return?

Aug. 19, 2011by: Mike Sampson

Last May, Sylvester Stallone told Empire Magazine, "I think Rambo's pretty well done," adding that he was "99% sure" there wouldn't be another film. But now, CONAN THE BARBARIAN writer Sean Hood told the very same Empire Magazine, he just completed RAMBO: LAST STAND, a script he was hired to write by Millennium Films and Stallone, who even provided Hood with pages of material to use as inspiration for the screenplay. So what gives?

As Hood explains, "As of now, I don't know whether Mr Stallone will actually do it. Right now, as I understand it, he has his hands full with BULLET TO THE HEAD and EXPENDABLES 2. But Millennium Films did hire me to complete the screenplay and realize his story, and my hope is that he'll eventually be inspired to do one more Rambo film."

So it does seem that Stallone isn't very focused on another RAMBO film but at least now it's more of a possibility that it was when Stallone was last speaking of the sequel.

As for the plot, Hood says it has nothing to do with any of the previously rumored storylines and instead harks back to FIRST BLOOD. "It's more in line with a small-town thriller...with the tone of Clint Eastwood's UNFORGIVEN." While that does sound all well and good, my favorite idea was when Stallone pitched Rambo jumping genres to sci-fi or horror or something (see my old article, "Who will Rambo fight?" for my ideas on where it could've gone).

Are you interested in a new RAMBO film or are you happy with the way the character was sent off in the last film?

If Stallone doesn't return, they should recast it with Justin Bieber.

"From the writer of CONAN THE BARBARIAN."

Tempting, but I'll pass.

One of the things Rambo for did right was end the series perfectly.

Title: John Rambo

If they were to do this it would have to be just right. I love the character and would love to see Stallone do it just one more time.

First Blood is still my favorite in the series so if Last Stand is anything like it I'm down in Rambotown.

Rambo Strikes Again

I really dont think there needs to be another Rambo movie, I mean the last one should have been the end...dont get me wrong I am a big fan of Rambo..but I think if they produce one more movie..it should end of a high note, and make ties to the first movie.

No Way

Very rarely am I completely satisfied with the way a movie franchise wraps up. Loved Rambo and thought it was a proper ending to the series.

Why? RAMBO ended the franchise perfectly, just as Rocky Balboa ended its respective franchise on a wonderful note. With the right story, maybe a sequel would work, but it would have to be something really special. If they cast a new actor to play Rambo at this point--for a sequel--it will flop, guaranteed. A prequel wouldn't really work because it would just be another Vietnam film--basically Platoon or The Deer Hunter with Rambo.

the end of the last film was a perfect close for the character and for the series. No need to attempt to keep it moving. I wouldnt sit through another one if they made it.

NO

as a huge Rambo fan I think this is an absoutely retarded idea. 'RAMBO' wrapped up the series and brought it full circle with the best finale we could've hoped for. Do NOT go back and open up the already closed story for no reason. Please Stallone, give me more Expendables, but you wrapped up Rambo and Rocky PERFECTLY with the last installments... no more is needed!

if Stallone isn't in it then it's not a Rambo film! Point blank!

It would be cool to see him go after someone who has kidnapped, or killed one of his family members. Kinda like Commando with Swarzenegger.

Well...

"small town thriller" sounds good. Maybe Rambo getting into trouble with the law again or some evil bankers trying to steal his land/farm? That bringing the characters back too his roots ala First Blood 1.

Seems unnecessary, but I could be convinced to see a new movie. On a side note, its funny how they could never figure out the titles for the Rambo franchise.
First Blood
Rambo: First Blood 2
Rambo 3
Rambo (or John Rambo)
Rambo: Last Stand
It would be nice if they at least attempted some consistency.

Just because he made it home doesn't mean trouble can't find him there. What kind of fairy tale world are we living in here?

"Small-town thriller"? Does this mean it will go back to something like First Blood? Still, I agree with Mut below. Rambo came home, found his peace, and called it a day.

The whole point of the FIRST BLOOD and the following sequels was of him trying to get home, so on that note RAMBO hit it perfectly. He's anti-authority figure so he would fit perfectly in todays world of govt scare tactics, maybe they could combine FIRSTBLOOD & DIEHARD2 and have Rambo take on the TSA; like he would be denied boarding for having a friends war metals or something that would push his buttons like in police barracks of FB, the entire airport would shutdown and he would have to try

Definitely would pay to see that movie !

The last one was a really cool flick but, it did bring the character full circle so, I'm torn. Part of me says let it lie, but, the fanboy in me wants to see Stallone wear the bandana one more time. It's up to Stallone. If they do it, I'll check it out.

It's time to kill the franchise

If this is indeed the last one, kill the character off and be done with it.
