Depp in Sin City?!

03.19.2004

How could a film that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Benicio Del Toro get any cooler? How about by adding Johnny Depp? AND Christopher Walken? AND Steve Buscemi?! That's not cool enough for ya? How about if Quentin Tarantino directs a portion of it? Well that's precisely what's happening with Robert Rodriguez and his SIN CITY. He confirmed today to Variety he's in talks with all the above actors as well as Tarantino, who would direct one of the three segments of the film. The news comes as Rodriguez resigns from the DGA so he can list more than one director on the project. Rodriguez wanted to give SIN CITY creator Frank Miller a co-directing credit on the film but DGA guidelines prohibit more than one director being credited on a film. Rodriguez said he left the DGA with no animosity but didn't want to be involved in the rigorous process of trying to get an exemption. The director last waived membership when directing a segment of Miramax's FOUR ROOMS. The DGA won't be a problem for Tarantino - he's not a member. None of the cast members, except Rourke who plays Marv, the lead, are set in stone, but Rodriguez is actively negotiating with all of them to take roles on a short schedule for little pay. Filming on SIN CITY is expected to begin later this month on the director's own soundstage in Austin, TX.
