INT: Leatherface!!!

03.22.2004

During our most recent trek through New Jersey's FANGORIA CON, we met a bunch of cool horror peeps, including the man who played Leatherface in last year's re-imagining of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: Andrew Bryniarski. The man turned out to be one of the more laid-back and party-hardy guys around, even hanging out with everyone at the Saturday Night bash. With the release of both the 2-disc and single-disc editions of TEXAS to hit DVD shelves early next week (March 30th), our own horror guru, John Fallon (aka The Arrow), decided to talk with the man behind the mask.  Below is my favorite question of all, in which John puts Andrew on the spot, but Mr. Bryniarski handles it like the champ that he is. Incidentally, the man is f*ckin' huge!

ARROW: The original TCM or the remake? Straight up…which one do you like the most? No PR shit…straight up.

ANDREW: (long pause) That’s not a fair question.

ARROW: (laughs) COME ON!

ANDREW: We really rode the back of a great, classic film and we have made a great film in the process that can stand on its own. I think they’re both great movies.

ARROW: Beautiful. Being a big fan of the original myself…I was taken by surprise when I went to see the remake…I didn’t expect to like it…

ANDREW: We were out to surprise you, that’s why you were surprised. I worked with great people who were highly motivated. Everybody was up for the task at hand.
