The Thing prequel to The Thing prequel is here in comic form
If you're curious to know what happened before you find out what happened before the events of John Carpenter's horror masterpiece THE THING, now you can see it unfold (so to speak) in digital comic format.
The prequel to THE THING (called THE THING) opens on October 14th, but beginning today you can read THE THING: THE NORTHMAN NIGHTMARE, which "tells the origin story of pioneering Norsemen who discover a shape-shifting creature that is hiding in a desolate village with few human survivors..."
The comic (not starring Alexander Skarsgard) will be released in three parts, with the next to be followed on September 28 and October 5. It's available FREE at www.digital.darkhorse.com and via the free Dark Horse Comics mobile app.
The comic is written by Steve Niles (30 DAYS OF NIGHT), and here's the deal: "Taking us into frigid Greenland, the comic introduces us to a group of Norsemen who find themselves caught in a game of survival when they discover a terrifying creature. The shapeshifting monster has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. And it hides somewhere in a desolate village with few human survivors, among them a strange group of women..."
The movie comes from director Matthijs van Heijningen, and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Eric Christian Olsen, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and lots of CG tentacles. The synopsis: "Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost known as Thule Station. There, a crew of international scientists has unearthed a remarkable discovery. But elation quickly turns to terrifying paranoia in the thriller “The Thing,” as the group of researchers encounters something inhuman that has the ability to turn itself into an exact replica of any living being."
|Extra Tidbit:||Carpenter has stated that Dark Horse's own 1991 comic miniseries THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD served as a righteous sequel to his movie.|
