District B13 is getting an American remake with Paul Walker in talks to star

Oct. 27, 2011by: George Merchan

If you felt DISTRICT B13 was too damn French for its own good, then BRICK MANSIONS may be the film for you!

Yes, BRICK MANSIONS is the title of Luc Besson and Europa Corp's own American remake of their highly entertaining 2004 action film. And according to Deadline, FAST and often FURIOUS actor Paul Walker is in talks to take on the film's undercover detective role (played in the French original by Cyril Raffaelli). The action this time around is said to likely be taking place in Chicago. Here's the story per Deadline if you're unfamiliar:

"Walker will play an undercover detective chasing a weapon of mass destruction that was stolen by a drug dealer in the ghetto known as Brick Mansions. He seeks help from the incredibly agile Lino, who knows Brick Mansions better than anyone and is the only person not cowering in fear of the drug dealers."

Just like the French film. And funny enough, just like the French film, Parkour-founder David Belle will return to play 'Lino' once again! Apparently, Besson would only make the movie if Belle was allowed to star.

Good idea? Bad idea? Check out the trailer for the French original below and then let us know what you think!

If both leads don't parkour, then I won't be parkouring my ass in the theater.

I don't want to believe that Americans are way too lazy to read subtitles... but then again, I can't find another explanation for this

American here. I've seen the original, and it's quite excellent.

Don't worry. American here also, and I saw District B13 in theaters.

But I will admit to watching the dvd a few times with the dubbing on. It makes it a hilarious movie. Everyone has to try it once in their life.

Paul Walker? Really? Look, I don't think he's a bad guy. But B-13 is entirely based on the physical abilities of the two leads. Paul Walker is not going to be doing any parkour, so why the hell are they remaking this? I could understand if they picked someone who could actually do all the moves necessarily for the film, and if Walker can, well, more power to him. But we all know that won't be the case.

Wouldn't this be a little close to The Fast and the Furious? Or is Paul Walker just the go-to guy for popcorn undercover cop movies?

Fan of the original

I was about to say I hate this but if David Belle is on board, I might check it out. Will Walker be carrying a surf board in this?

In seeing who would play leito and k2. If PWalk can actually DO all the stunts like cyril can, i'll be there opening weekend.

Great, another useless remake of a good foreign film.

I agree, he was badass but it doesn't make this movie anymore necessary

Ok guys, here's your choice for lead, Paul Walker or Channing Tatum.

Or a potato.

You can go with this, or you can go with that. Or you can go with us. Christopher Walken should replace Paul Walker.

Paul Walker, yes bad idea! I really don't like his acting, and he will destroy the film.

I'll give you two reasons not to watch this:
- remake
- Paul Walker
