Some action-packed, blood-spattering images from Dredd!

Feb. 6, 2012by: Paul Shirey

Some bloody good images from the upcoming Judge Dredd film, titled simply DREDD, have shot their way online. Some nice action poses, frowny face Dredd, and a healthy headshot, make for a promising look at the "hard-R" rating that DREDD is supposedly going for.

Check out the brain-matter explosion below:

Directed by Pete Travis (VANTAGE POINT), DREDD is an adaptation of the long-running Judge Dredd comic book about an American law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. There was a somewhat unfortunate adaptation done by Sylvester Stallone in 1995, which had a lot of potential, but ultimately sunk under a mountain of convolution and Rob Schneider.

This adaptation, featuring Karl Urban as the titular character, looks to be more in line with the tone and violence of the comic. Urban is joined by Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey in the pic, which looks to be released on September 21st, 2012.

For the curious, Stallone had this to say about his Judge Dredd film in an interview with Uncut:

"It just wasn't balls to the wall. But I do look back on Judge Dredd as a real missed opportunity. It seemed that lots of fans had a problem with Dredd removing his helmet, because he never does in the comic books. But for me it is more about wasting such great potential there was in that idea; just think of all the opportunities there were to do interesting stuff with the Cursed Earth scenes. It didn't live up to what it could have been. It probably should have been much more comic, really humorous, and fun. What I learned out of that experience was that we shouldn't have tried to make it Hamlet; it's more Hamlet and Eggs..."

Extra Tidbit: If one good thing came out of Stallone's Judge Dredd film, it was Alan Silvestri's score, which deserved a better movie.

Get real dammit!

The uniform looks battered which would fit in to the rugged type of job but the helmet is too big! Also that chick doing the head shot is standing str8 up like she is waiting in a Starbucks line. If she is shooting pistol that big, there should be some kick back so she needs to adjust her stance to accomodate this. Feet apart, side stance, Eye-Muzzle-Target!

I will skip the obvious helmet comment and go to the gun itself...WHAAAA!?!?

Its freaking Judge Dredd why is he carrying the Noisy Cricket, and the balance looks like it would be terrible.

Poor design.

Ghastly

I just realized what makes the helmet look ridiculous. In the comic picture you can see the helmet only goes down right below the ear. In the movie, it hangs down several more inches, making Karl Urban's face (and chin) appear far, far too small. This is a colossal fuck-up of a design choice. I second the Spaceballs reference.

the helmet looks fine to me. Looks like the one Stallone wore. I'm not really understanding what Stallone had to say about the film he was in. He says they should have tried to make it more comic, humorous, and fun? Isn't that the reason why some people hated it? It didn't seem like Hamlet to me. It seemed pretty camp. I liked it though.

RE: on the helmet

the design in the comic does not reflect a helmet that "protects the head" (IE NO PADDING) this helmet was obviously designed to protect the head (IE it has padding inside, it's bigger) i disagree, look at motorcycle helmets, they are no bigger than this, and some doofus made the SPACEBALLS comment - THEY ACTUALLY USED A MOTORCYCLE HELMET!!!! Gheeesh people!!

Sorry Helmets to big,
That first pic reminds me of Spaceballs!

Other than that I'm more than willing to give it a shot, looks like it could surprise a lot of people

Yeah that's right judge the whole fucking movie off of a couple of stills. Don't wait to see the movie completed to form your pointless opinion, knock the entire film right now and say it's going to suck. Nice job.

Lmfao.. You'rew absolutely right. They need to switch heads with the actor and the cartoon design. The whole shit looks ridiculous. Hate on Stalon's movie all you want, but atleast they had the look down pat. This shit looks like a Zucker parody.

So bad. So very, very bad.

This is going to be one big steamy shit burger of a movie. I'm sorry, but any of you talking about how promising this looks are members of that merry band of nitwits that studios market to, thereby killing all hope for somewhat decent movies for the rest of us to watch.

Olivia Thrilby is hot. That's enough for me to see this, I think. Then again she looked hot in that Russia-Alien movie and I can't even remember its title and I definitely didn't shell out money to see it. Perhaps Oliva Thrilby could just show up at my place and be hot? Yeah. Lets just do that instead.

Seriously I don't want to keep beating a dead horse but the helmet's like, distractingly big. I know it's big in the comics, but I bet in the comics it doesn't look like a little kid wearing an overside toy helmet at Toys R Us.
